A wealth of information on a period of history that is too often neglected, especially by the general populace and even by historians. This collection of articles covers everything from commerce to warfare to the day-to-day life of the Roman populace. Not a book for someone with only a passing interest in Late Antiquity and the Byzantine Empire, but hard to beat for the specialist. A similar volume exists for the Age of Constantine, if that is where your interests lie. ( )
