PREFACE.

Ir any apology was needed in the publication of this NEW, ENLARGED, and REVISED EDITION, there would be sufficient when the author informs the reader that the smaller and inferior edition reached in sale upwards of one hundred thousand copies. Then, too, I am under no obligations to the public in this matter, as the book is written simply for the reader, and is intended as a STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL, PROFESSIONAL, SCIENTIFIC CONSULTATION BETWEEN AUTHOR AND READER, in which the latter is in search of knowledge, and of which the former is willing and able to impart. Every man and woman, yea, every boy and girl, who has sufficient understanding, should possess a copy of this work.

This book, being satisfactory in its explanations, all can readily understand. Works heretofore published on Anatomy give dry details of disease, covered over with Latin and Greek terms, having no more life than the dried skeletons and preparations they treat upon, and which are incomprehensible to any but a professional reader.

The object has been to render this work so full, so clear, so thorough and complete, that every one may understand the structure and functions of the body, the conditions of health, the cause of disease, with all systems of cure. In addition, combining in the book every important subject relating at all to man or woman.

It is, indeed, a great satisfaction to me, knowing that
