was not extensive; the wholesale grocers were the chief purchasers; the holders do not appear to be anxious to effect sales, as the stock is rather limited, and the refiners are not working freely: the goods of the patent description being scarce, are rather higher than quotations. The accounts from the Continent have been rather unfavoura. ble for refined Sugar until yesterday, when the Hamburg market was reported to be rather better in price, and more demand.Molasses have been in some request. COFFEE.-There were considerable fluctuations in Coffee, last week. No public sales were brought forward, but there was considerable business done by private contract; the request was steady until Thursday, when considerable purchasers came forward; the market immediately became brisk, and the prices advanced considerably-St. Domingo and East India, advanced 3s. a 4s.; the other qualities about 2s.; St. Domingo ordinary sold at 143, good at 144s, and fine realised 145s, 6d. Butters remain nominally the same; little or no business doing; the weather continues uncommonly mild. FRUIT. Notwithstanding the depres sion of the prices, the buyers are not induced to come forward. The market is glutted with every description of Fruit; Figs are nearly unsaleable; the condition in general is bad. TEA.-The sale at the India House continues; the quotations must in consequence be considered nominal. The Bobeas have sold 2s. 43d. a 2s. 51d.; the fine Congous are selling Id, a 2d, higher; the low qualities 1d. a 2d. lower than last sale. SPICES.-Spices are exceedingly heavy. NAVAL STORES.-There have been some sales of Rough Turpentine. Spirits are unvaried. In Tar, Pitch, and Rosin, there is no alteration in the price, but the market is exceedingly heavy. RICE. SUGAR.-The demand for Muscovades continued steady last week, particularly for good strong qualities, but the business done was not extensive. The deliveries from the warehouse, last week, were above 3700 casks Sugar, which may be considered large for the season of the year; the request for Muscovades this forenoon, has, however, been limited; the prices could not be stated at any variation; the market is still heavy. A public sale of Barbadoes Sugar was brought forward this forenoon, it consisted of 194 hhds. 40 tierces; the whole went off rather heavily, and generally at the reduc tion of Is. to 2s, from the prices realised at the last public sale-very fine white 92s. 6d. middling 90s, and 91s. yellaw 82s, to 86s, 63. IRISH PROVISIONS.-There is little variation in the prices of Beef and Pork; the shipping demand is still inconsiderable; the inferior parcels of Provisions meet a very heavy sale. The prices of Brandy and Geneva continue nominal. This forenoon a public sale of thirty-three puncheons of Cogniae was brought forward; the first two lots 5s, 10d, and 6s. HEMP, FLAX, and TALLOW.-The arrivals of Baltic articles for some days past have been very extensive, the holders, however, yesterday were anticipating. as the supplies for the year are now nearly ascertained, that the demand will increase; there appears to be more confidence in the market, particularly for Tallow, The prices of Hemp and Flax are rather lower, but the holders of these articles look for an improvement. DECEMBER, 22. COTTON.-The great depression of the prices of East India Cotton continues to attract the attention of the large capitalists, and for fair common to good fair qualities of Bengals, there appears extensive purchasers at 6d, to 74d, in the warehouse; and the 'holders are now asking higher prices, otherwise the sales would have been very considerable. The purchases of Cotton since Tuesday last little exceed 750 bags160 Pernambuco 23d, to 231d, 50 Minas 1740. a few Surais !14d, and 500 bags Bengals 6d. to 74d, the two latter in bond, SUGAR.-The demand for Muscovades last week was very limited, and the few sales effected, were in consequence of the heavy market, purchased a shade lower. FRUIT. The late imports have been so extensive, that the stock in the warcborse accumulates rapidly; further supplies are expected. There is an increasing demand for Fruit, but the prices decline, owing to the large parcels that continue to be forced on the market by public sale. RICE.-The extensive sale at the India House, consisting of nearly 13,000) Lags, was brought forward last week; the Lergal nearly supported the late prices; the older descriptions went off at exceedingly low rates-Fair quality Bengal realised 26.
