MY LORD,

SUCH is the degeneracy of modern Dedication, that

with the immortal Butler,

"It matters not how false or forc❜d,
"So the best things be said of the worst ;"

which would be fufficient to difcourage the appearance of any thing under the name; were it not, that exceptions to this general assertion have ́arifen in our own days, evincing the mild but fuperior dignity of Truth, however unadorned, to all the glittering tinfel of unmerited panegyric.

Thefe remarks, with respect to the prefent addrefs, would be needlefs, were the Reader but acquainted with the many and difinterested favours which you have from time to time conferred on me unfolicited; he would then look on this to be, what in
