In accordance with the provisions of Title 65, Chapters 1 and 2, of the Revised Civil Statutes of the State of Texas, the House of Representatives of the Thirty-first Legislature assembled this day in the Hall of the House of Representatives at the city of Austin, at 12 o'clock, meridian.

Hon. W. R. Davie, Secretary of State, called the Honorable House to order.

The Honorable Secretary announced that the rules of the House of the Thirtieth Legislature would be enforced during the organization of the House, and requested all persons not entitled to the privileges of the floor under those rules to retire.

Dr. Bennett Grad, rabbi of Beth Israel. Austin, Texas, by invitation of the Honorable Secretary, invoked the blessings of Almighty God upon the assembling of the Thirty-first Legislature.

TEMPORARY ORGANIZATION.

For the purposes of temporary organization, the Honorable Secretary appointed the following officers:

Bob Barker of Bexar county, Chief Clerk.

Sebe Newman of Ellis county, Sergeant-at-Arms.

C. P. Burkes of Bell county, J. C. Adrian of Travis county, Ed B. Willis of Denton county and W. L. Castles of Tarrant county, Assistant Sergeants-atArms.

MEMBERS TAKE OATH OF OFFICE.

There being a quorum present, the Honorable Secretary directed the Chief Clerk, Bob Barker, to read the oath of office to the members, which was done as follows:

All the members rising together and repeating the following oath prescribed in the Constitution, each his own name after the first word, pronoun "I," following the reading clerk:

"I, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as a member of the House of Representatives of the Thirty-first Legislature according to the best of my skill and ability, agreeably to the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this State, and I do further solemnly swear (or affirm) that since the adoption of the Constitution of this State, I, being a citizen of this State, have not fought a duel with deadly weapons, within this State nor out of it, nor have I sent or accepted a challenge to fight a duel with deadly weapons, nor have I acted as second in carrying a challenge, or aided, advised
