Temple, AND THE Country Pots. BY THE REV. GEORGE HERBERT. With his Life: ABRIDGED FROM IZAAK WALTON. “Of the long and splendid list of British Poets, from the earliest days down to Byron and Moore, there have been only some hall dozen writers, smit with the love of sacreil song, whose genius was kindled at the altar of Christian devotion." BOSTON: 1842. 14456,35 TOLLEGE 11BABY Advertisement. “The Temple,” which has passed through numerous editions in England, though never before printed in this country, was first published in 1635, by Mr. Nicholas Ferrar, soon after the death of Mr. Herbert. So rapid was the sale, that more than twenty thousand copies were disposed of in a few years. The sixth edition, which is followed in the present, is dated 1641. The “ Priest to the Temple” first appeared in 1652, in a collection of “ Herbert's Remains." The copy of this edition is taken from that first. The later ones have suffered considerable mutilation.
