PROLOGUE.

BY E. E. F. AND W. H. F.

SPOKEN BY ALEXANDER FORBES, FEBRUARY 8, 1894.

WHEN Grandpa was our Edward's age,

WHE

He showed the wisdom of a sage

To win and wed the bonniest bride,
Our Grandmamma, who is our pride.
More than her merry eyes and voice
To prove the virtue of his choice,
She brought with her abiding Youth,
Love and high Courage, Faith and Truth,
To share with him, and bless their way
With her light heart and spirit gay;
And shining Hope with rainbow wings
Still in her sunny presence sings.

And now for sixty years of days.
Their life is sweet for us to praise;
Grandma deserved to have her way!
And Grandpa - he, his Hathaway!
We, his proud descendant throng
(Count us five-and-twenty strong)
Recall with love his record grand,
Ever helping, heart and hand,
His country and his fellow-men,
With tireless zeal and busy pen,
Doubling the good of every act
With playful wit and tender tact.
