Luke And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you, that if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. 14 John And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, Fear not, daughter of Sion; behold thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt. These things understood not his disciples at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.' The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of nis grave, and raised him from the dead, bare recard. For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle. The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold the world is gone after him. Lake And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy VOL. I. Mar. And into the temple; and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the even-tide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve. Sect. 112. The fig-tree is cursed, and the temple is purged. Mar. And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry. And seeing a fig-tree afar off, having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it. Mar. And they come to Jerusalem; and Jesus went into the temple,

Mat. Now in the morning, (viz. of the day the transactions of which the Evangelist had been relating; not the morn ing of the following day as is commonly supposed), as he returned into the city, he hungered, (vas, be had become hungry). And when he saw a fig-tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig-tree withered away.

And in the morning (viz. next morning, the morning after that on which the fig-tree was cursed, and the temple purged, as is evident from the preceding verse in Mark) as they passed by, they saw the fig-tree dried up from the roots. And Peter calling to remembrance, saith unto him, Master, behold the fig-tree which thou cursedst, is withered away.

Mat. And when the disciples saw it, (viz. next day) they
marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig-tree wither-
ed away?"

Mat. Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say
Junto you,

If ye have faith, and doubt not,

Ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig-tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain,

Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea,

It shall be done.

Mar. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in
God. For verily I say unto you,

That whosoever shall say unto this moun-
tain, (the mount of Olives on which they were
walking)

Be thou removed, and be thou cast

into the sea,

And shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass,

He shall have whatsoever he saith. Mat. And all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, Believing, ye shall receive.

Mar. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire when ye pray,

Believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Mar. And when ye stand, praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any; that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
