Excerpt from A New Law Dictionary: Containing Explanations of Such Technical Terms and Phrases as Occur in the Works of Legal Authors, in the Practice of the Courts, and in the Parliamentary Proceedings of the Houses of Lords and Commons

The first edition of this Work has now been out of print about twelve months, and the favour with which the Pro fession and the Public were pleased to receive it has induced the Author to offer the present improved edition to their notice. With the view of extending its usefulness, the terms and phrases of most frequent occurrence in our Parliamentary proceedings have been introduced. These, indeed, are so intimately connected with the law, and in the present day assume such prominent importance, that, so far from their introduction needing an apology, their omission would furnish fair ground for censure. The following may be instanced as examples of the class of words alluded to: Standing Orders Budget, Pairing of, - Select Committee, Private Bills.
