16 Ye shall know them by their o fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree p bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every a tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, r shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith,g no, not in Israel.

11 And I say unto you, That h many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with

Christ cureth the palsy. CHAPTER IX.

1 Christ cureth the palsy, 9 calleth Matthew, 10 eateth with publicans and sinners.

AND he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his

own city.

2 And, a behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith, said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, b be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

4 And Jesus knowing thoughts, c said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

5 For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say. Arise, and walk?

14 Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?

15 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bride-chamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom k is with them? but the days will unwrought come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

Christ raiseth Jairus. MATTHEW, X. cloth unto an old garment, for that A. D. 31. which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.

17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else'm the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

18 Whilen he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.o

19 And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples. 20 T And, p behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:

21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, q shall be whole.

22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said Daughter, be of good comfort; thy r faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.s

2 Now the names b of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alpheus, and Lebbeus, whose surname was Thaddeus;

4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. 5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritansc enter ye not:

6 But god rather to the lost sheep e of the house of Israel.

7 And, as ye go, preach, saying, f The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freelyg ye have received, freely give.

9 2 Provide h neither gold, nor silver, nor brass, in your purses. 10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet 3 staves; for i the workman is worthy of his meat.

11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, inquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.

13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it but if it be not worthy, let your peace, return k to you.

14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

15 Verily I say unto you, It m shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city. 16 T Behold, I send you forth ast sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise n as serpents, and 4 harmless o as doves.

17 But beware p of men: for thevg will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge r you in their

synagogues;

18 And yes shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

19 Butt when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak; for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.

20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
