Mechanics' lien laws are remedial in nature, in derogation of the common law, and find their origin solely in statutes. The liens given do not grow out of, though they depend upon, contract; they do not abrogate any of the common law remedies, and no vested right in the remedies of a

Mechanics' lien laws designed to attain the same ends as, but each with provisions varying in greater or less degree from, the Michigan statute exist in practically all of the states.
