This being the day prescribed by the Constitution of the State of Indiana (Article 4, Section 9,) for the meeting of the General Assembly, Senators holding over and Senators elect met in the city of Indianapolis, Senate Chamber, in the State Capitol Building, at 10 o'clock a. M. Lieutenant Governor, Ira J. Chase, called the Senate to order. After which the Senate was led in prayer by Rev. Dr. D. R. Lucas, of the Central Christian Church, Indianapolis. Twenty-four Senators, elected in 1888 for the constitutional term of four years, appeared and answered to their names as follows: From Hamilton and Tipton, Thomas E. Boyd.
