They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength."

CAS

Isa. xi. 31.

AST all thy care on God in life's dark day, And at His pitying feet thy burden lay. Let no vain fears afflict thy drooping heart; Christ thy support shall be, -do thou thy part. Weary, or faint, or sad, this comfort seeBehold thy gracious Lord, dying for thee. Life's bitter cup of woe, fill'd to the brim, No more a grief will seem if quaff'd for Him. Think on thy blessings left, the mercies given ; Resign thee to His will, the will of Heaven. Then, all thy trials o'er, cross'd the dark sea, At the golden gate He'll stand and welcome thee.

"Thine own friend, and thy father's friend forsake not.

Prov. xxvii. 10.

THY friend put in thy bosom ; wear his eyes Still in thy heart that he may see what's there.

Thy drops of blood must pay down all his fear; But love is lost, the way of friendship's gone Though David had his Jonathan, Christ his

ET there be light!" and chaos fled
Back to his midnight cell,

And Light, the earliest gift of Heaven,
On cradled nature fell.

Earth from the encroaching waters rose,
Strong Ocean knew his place;

Bold rivers forced their unknown way,
Young streams began their race.

Forth came the Sun, that monarch proud,
And at his genial rays

The springing groves, and pencill'd flowers,
Put on their robes of praise,

It came, with holy gladness fraught,
With pure benignant ray;

And God Himself the lesson taught

To keep the Sabbath Day.

Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him." Job xiii. 15.

ALTHOUGH to-day He prunes my twigs with

Yet doth His blood nourish and warm my root;
To-morrow I shall put forth buds again
And clothe myself with fruit.

Although to-day I walk in tedious ways,
To-day His staff is turn'd into a rod,

Yet will I wait for Him the appointed days,
And stay upon my God.

"Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God." Deut. xviii. 13.

WHATE'ER my hand or heart design,

Of holy thought, or work divine,

Of alms, or fast, or prayer;
May I, my God, with all my might,
Do it for Thee, and in Thy sight,
Thy Love-mine only care!

They must have trod the narrow way
Who at the close of life's short day
God's Paradise would share.

Him."

Deut. vi. 13.

IVE me, O Lord, whate'er lot
my may be,

A heart to look to, and to lean on Thee;
Teach me the thing that pleaseth Thee to do,
And make my life to my profession true.
Let me, my Saviour, on Thy breast recline,
Thy words my comfort, my devotion Thine;
My life's best joy, Thy promises to prove,-
Trust in Thy Truth, and triumph in Thy Love.
