"Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord."

WE

Ps. iv. 5.

come not with a costly store,
O Lord, like them of old,

The masters of the starry lore,

From Ophir's shore of gold.

But still our love would bring its best,
A spirit keenly tried

By fierce affliction's fiery test,

And seven times purified:

The fragrant graces of the mind,
The virtues that delight

To give their perfume out, will find
Acceptance in Thy sight.

"O Lord God of hosts. blessed is the man that

trusteth in Thee."

Ps. lxxxiv. 12.

LORD of Hosts, how blest is he

Who in Thy strength confides,

Whose soul reposes trustingly
On all Thy grace provides;

Who never fears, nor doubts Thy love,
Assured-when Thou art nigh,

That what Thy wisdom may approve,

Thy love will ne'er deny!

Monsell.

"

'O love the Lord, all ye His saints."
Ps. xxxi. 23.

JESUS, I my cross hath taken

All to leave, and follow Thee;
Destitute, despised, forsaken,

Thou from hence my all shall be.
I have call'd Thee, Abba, Father!
I have stay'd my heart on Thee!
Storms may howl, and clouds may gather,
All must work for good for me.
Oh! 'tis not in grief to harm me,
While Thy love is left to me!
Oh! 'twere not in joy to charm me,
Were that joy unmix'd with Thee!

"O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together."—Ps. xxxiv. 3.

WE

HERE'ER you are, where'er ye dwell,
Ye creatures great and small,

Adore the wisdom, praise the power,

That made and governs all.

Praise Him, thou sun, who dwell'st unseen
Amidst eternal light,

Where thy refulgent orb would seem

A spot as dark as night.

Thou silver moon, ye hosts of stars,

The universal song

Through the serene and silent night
To listening worlds prolong.

Rev. Philip Skelton.

"Now, saith the Lord, turn ye even unto Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning."-Joel ii. 12. BY precepts taught of ages past,

Oh let us keep in truth the fast,
Which, year by year, in order meet
Of forty days is made complete.
More sparing therefore let us make
The words we speak, the food we take;
Deny ourselves in mirth and sleep,
In stricter watch our senses keep.

In prayer together let us fall,
And cry for mercy, one and all;
And weep before the Judge, and say,
Oh, turn from us Thy wrath away.

Obey my voice, and I will be your God."

Jer. vii. 23.

ABSORB my will in Thine: support and bear

Onward in loving arms Thy timid child;

Thy Spirit's voice dispels all doubt, all fear
And quells the passions erst so fierce and wild.
Thou art mine all, since that Thy Son is mine;
Oh let Thy Spirit work with power in me.
With strong desire 1 thirst, I pant for Thee,
Oh joy, whene'er Thy glories round me shine!
