Publisher's Note

The Euterpeiad was published in three volumes in Boston between 1820 and 1823. Compositions by both American and foreign composers were sometimes issued as a supplement to individual numbers of the periodicals. These compositions were never numbered, nor was there any indication of pagination. For purposes of convenience they are included in this edition at the end of volume three.

No complete set of The Euterpeiad is known to be extant. This complete reprint edition, including all

known musical supplements, has been assembled from material at The Library of Congress; the George Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville, Tennessee; the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Massachusetts; The New York Public Library; the Boston Public Library; and the Eda Kuhn Music Library at Harvard University.

The publishers are grateful to these institutions and to the Olin Library at Wesleyan University which provided its copy of volume three for use in producing this edition.
