1492 Chriftopher Columbus, a native of Genoa, after having to no purpose, folicit ed the affittance of the different courts of Europe, is at lait enabled to proceed on a voyage of difcoveries, by the court of Spain, August 3d. and on the 11th October following, he difcovers the ifland St. Salvador, now St. Chriftopher's; foon after he falls in with feveral others of the Weft-India
