1 Thess. ii, 16. Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles, that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

THE CHURCH AMONG THE

GENTILES.

Acts xiii, 48. 49. And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed. And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

Acts xlv, 27, 28. And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles. And there they abode long time with the disciples.

Acts xv. 3. 4. And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren. And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of

th

church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared: all things that God had done

with them.

Acts xvii, 4, 12, 33, 34. And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few. Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men not a few. So Paul departed from among them. Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

Acts xxi. 19. And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.

Acts xxii, 21. And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

Acts xxvi, 16-18. But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, To open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light,

and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Rom. i, 5. 13-15. By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name; Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but have some fruit among you also, was let hitherto,) that I might even as among other Gentiles. I am debtor both to the Greeks and to the Barbarians, both to the wise and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is. I am ready to preach the Gospel to you that are at Rome also.

Rom. x, 18. But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

Rom. xv, 16-19. That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost. I have therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God. For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

2 Cor. ii, 6. Who also bath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Gal. ii, 7-9. But contrariwise. when they saw that the gospel of

theuncircumcision was committed

unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship, that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

Eph. ii, 13--15, 17. But now, in Christ Jesus, ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the

enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace. And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

Eph. ii, 1-4,7,8. For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, (If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is by revelation he made known given me to you-ward: How that unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words. Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ.) Whereof 1 was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. Unto me, who an less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.

Col. i, 6, 25-27. Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in yon, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth: Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

2 Tim. 1, 11. Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

Rev. xiv, 6. And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on and kindred, and tongue, and the earth, and to every nation, people.

REFLECTIONS.

Acts xv,19 20. Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

Rom. xi, 17--21. And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive-tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; Boast not against the branches; but if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Thou wilt say then, The branches were

broken off, that I might be graffed effect. For they are not all Israel
in. Well; because of unbeliet which are of Israel. That is, They
they were broken off, and thou which are the children of the
standest by faith. Be not high-flesh, these are not the children
minded, but fear: For if God
spared not the natural branches,
take heed lest he also spare not
thee.

Gal. ii, 14. 15. But when I saw that they walked not uprightly, according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thon the Gentiles to live as do the Jews? We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles.

Eph. ii, 11, 12. Wherefore re

of God; but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. For this is the word of promise. At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.

Rom. x, 1-4. Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved. For I bear them record, that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they, being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their Own righteousness. have not submitted themselves unto the righteous

until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob. For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. As concerning the gospel, they are touching the election, they are enemies for your sakes: but as beloved for the fathers' sakes. For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief; Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. For God hath concluded them all in unbe

member, that ye being in time ness of God. For Christ is the lief, that he might have mercy

past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God

in the world.

Titus 1, 13, 14. This witness is rebuke them true: wherefore sharply, that they may be sound

in the faith: Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

1 Peter ii, 10. Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God; which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

FINAL INBRINGING OF THE JEWS AND ITS RESULTS. Rom. ix, 1-6, 8, 9. I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh: Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises: Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. Not as though the word of God hath taken none

Rom. xi, 1, 9. 11-15, 23-32. I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benamin. And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them: I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealously. Now, if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness? For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office; If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them. For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. For if thou wert cut out of the olive-tree, which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive-tree; how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive-tree? For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, (lest ye should be wise in your own conceits.) that blindness in part is happened to Israel, 833
