This critical text analyzes the cinematographic work of Glauber Rocha, contrasting his film "Barravento" (1962), Rocha's first full length film, to "O pagador de promessas" of Anselmo Duarte, produced that same year; "Deus e o diabo na terra do sol" (1964) with "O cangaceiro", by Lima Barreto (1953)
