TWENTY-SECOND SERVICE.

PRAISE THE LORD!

Psalms cxi., cxxxv., lxxxv.

PRAISE ye the Lord!

I will praise the Lord with my whole heart,

In the assembly of the righteous, and in the congregation.

The works of the Lord are great,

Sought out by all who have pleasure therein.

His deeds are honorable and glorious,

And his righteousness endureth forever.

He hath established a memorial of his wonders.
The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion;

He giveth food to them that revere him ;

He is ever mindful of his covenant;

He showed his people the greatness of his works

When he gave them the inheritance of the heathen. The deeds of his hands are truth and justice; All his commandments are sure

They stand firm forever and ever,

Being founded in truth and justice.
He sent redemption to his people;
He established his covenant forever;
Holy and reverend is his name.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all they who keep his commandments. His praise endureth forever.

Praise ye the Lord! Praise ye the name of the Lord! Praise him, O ye servants of the Lord!

Ye who stand in the house of the Lord,

In the courts of the house of our God. Praise ye the Lord, for the Lord is good; Praise his name, for he is kind!

O Lord, thou hast been favorable to thy land.
Restore us, O God of our salvation!
Thou didst forgive the iniquity of thy people;
Thou didst take away all thy displeasure.

Wilt thou not revive us again,

That thy people may rejoice in thee?

Show us thy compassion, O Lord,

And grant us thy salvation.

I will hear what God, the Lord, will speak;

Truly he will speak peace to his people, and to his

servants.

Yea, his salvation is nigh them who fear him,

That glory may dwell in the land.

Mercy and truth shall meet together;

Righteousness and peace shall kiss each other.

Truth shall spring out of the earth;

Righteousness shall look down from heaven;

Yea, the Lord will give prosperity,

And our land shall yield her increase. Righteousness shall go before him,

And set us in the way of his steps.

We praise thee, Fountain of beauty and joy!

We praise thee for light and darkness, changing seasons, sunshine and shower.

The world is thine, and full of thee. My heart praises thee continually.

May my joy be holy; my gladness heavenly; my mirth calm; and every word and deed full of praise to thee.

I praise thee that thou hast gathered the glory of the world into my body so fair and perfect.

I praise thee for my soul, so vast in its desires, so jubilant in thought, so free in will, so hopeful of

the future.

Father of light, hallowed be thy name!

Father, I thank thee that I live;

I thank thee for the life everywhere streaming around

me.

Deeper let thy love flow into our hearts; forever upwards may it draw thy children to thee.

Silence, be thou my monitor!

May it speak of thee to my heart;

May it reveal thy presence within me;

In joy may it lift my soul to thee.

May I love thy children, and show them of the joy and gladness.

May I build up my life according to thine eternal

order, after the pattern which thou showest me in the mountain of truth.

If hours of darkness come, even then may I rejoice in thee.

By discipline may I be prepared for every service to thy children, and for every duty to thee.

Then shall we praise thee with joyful hearts. Then shall we join with the great family on earth and in heaven in celebrating thy goodness.

silence of the soul we will worship thee.

CHOIR.

Even in the

Amen.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him, on high, ye heavenly throng;

Praise him, all people, in your song.

TWENTY-THIRD SERVICE.

HUMAN FRAILTY.

Psalms xxxix., xc.

LORD, make me to know mine end, and the number of my days,

That I

may know how frail I am.

Behold, thou hast made my days as a hand-breadth,
And my life is as nothing before thee.

Yea, every man in his best estate is altogether
vanity.

Surely every man walketh in a vain show;

Surely he disquieteth himself in vain.

He heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.

What, then, O Lord, is my hope?

My hope is in thee.

Deliver me from all my transgressions;

Let me not be the reproach of scoffers!
Yet I am dumb; I open not my mouth;
For thou hast done it!

But remove from me thine affliction,

For I am perishing by the blow of thine hand. When thou, with rebukes, dost chasten man for iniquity, Thou causest his glory to waste away like a moth.
