Let all who seek thee be glad, and rejoice in thee!

Let those who love thy protection say, Great is the
Lord!

I am poor and needy, yet the Lord thinketh upon me.
Thou art my help and my deliverer;
My God! make no delay!

God is our refuge and strength,

An ever-present help in trouble;

Therefore will we not fear, though the earth be changed; Though the mountains tremble in the heart of the

sea;

Though its waters roar and be troubled,

And the mountains shake with the swelling thereof; A river with its streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy dwelling-place of the Most High.

God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God will help her, and that full early.

The nations raged; kingdoms were moved;

He uttered his voice, the earth melted.

The Lord of hosts is with us;

The God of Jacob is our refuge.

Be still, and know that I am God!

I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted throughout the earth!

The Lord of hosts is with us;

The God of Jacob is our refuge.

O Thou who givest what is good, and withholdest in thy wisdom,

Make us thankful for what we have, and patient and trustful always.

Thou knowest what efforts have failed, what hopes have been disappointed, and what wants are still unsupplied.

Pardon our ingratitude, if we have secretly charged thee with shutting up thy hand, withholding thy gifts, and refusing to bless.

We have not merited the things we enjoy, but live by thy bounty and thy unchanging goodness.

Lord, if thou shouldst mark iniquity, who could stand before thee?

Thou judgest not like man, but considerest the frailty of thy child. In darkness, as in the light, we will trust in thee.

May we hold fast our confidence in thee, believing that thou art mighty to save, and wilt make us partakers of thy holiness and wisdom.

May we search our ways, and sincerely repent of every wrong deed and every false motive.

If we have trusted in fame or in riches, and have been disappointed, humbly may we trust in thee, and live for higher and holier gains.

In life's darkest hours, may we watch and pray, lest we enter into temptation.

Let not want excite the selfish thirst for inordinate gain.

Thou whose love overflows unto all, quicken me by thy spirit, that I may consecrate myself to the service of thy children, as the best service to thee.

Imbue my soul with the spirit of the Holiest.

CHOIR.

Amen.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
Though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see,
Only thou art holy, there is none beside thee,
Infinite in power, in love, and purity.

NINETEENTH SERVICE.

PRAYER IN DISTRESS.

Psalms lxi., lxii., lxix.

HEAR my cry, O God, attend to my prayer!
From the ends of the earth I cry unto thee in deep sor-

row of heart.

Lead me to the rock that is higher than I,

For thou art my refuge,

My strong tower against the enemy. I shall dwell in thy tabernacle forever;

I will seek refuge under the covert of thy wings; For thou, O God, wilt hear my vows,

And give me the inheritance of those who fear thy

name.

Truly my soul resteth on God alone;
From him cometh my deliverance !

My soul, rest thou on God alone,

For from him cometh my hope!

He alone is my rock and my salvation;
He is my safeguard,

I shall not fall.

From God cometh my help and my glory;

My strong rock, my refuge, is God.

Trust in him at all times, ye people!
Pour out your hearts before him!
God is our refuge.

Save me, O God!

For the waters press into my very life. I sink in deep mire, where is no standing;

I have come into deep waters, and the waves flow

over me.

I am weary of crying; my throat is parched;

Mine eyes are wasted, while I wait for my God. Yet will I address my prayer to thee, O Lord!

May it be an accepted time, according to thy great goodness.

Hear, O God, and afford me thy sure help! Save me from the mire, and let me not sink!

May I be delivered from my enemies, from the deep waters!

Let not the water-flood overflow me;

Let not the deep swallow me up,

And let not the pit close her mouth upon me. Hear me, O Lord, since great is thy loving-kindness! According to the abundance of thy tender mercies look upon me!

Hide not thy face from thy servant.

I am greatly distressed; O, make haste to mine aid;

Draw near to me, and redeem my life;

Deliver me, because of my enemies!

Reproach hath broken my heart; I am full of heaviness.

I look for pity, but there is none;

For comforters, but find none.

I am poor and sorrowful:

May thine aid, O God, set me on high!

The afflicted shall see, and rejoice;

The hearts of them that fear God shall be revived;

For the Lord heareth the poor,

And despiseth not his children in their bonds.

Let the heavens and the earth praise him,

The sea, and all that move therein !
