Save us from whatever would dissolve the union

and sympathy of human hearts.

Thou, who art Truth and Love, inspire us with that reverence and loyalty which will save us from the perils of disobedience ;

Show us that in thee are the sources of the mother's love, the sister's tenderness, and the brother's friendship.

Help us to love all as in thee, to bless them in thy name, and serve them in thy spirit.

Flow thou into the holiest of my soul as love and wisdom.

From thee may I have the sympathy which will lead me to suffer with all who suffer, rejoice with all who rejoice, and weep with all who weep, and thus fulfil the law of love.

Amen.

Gloria Patri.

FOURTEENTH SERVICE.

EVENING PRAYER.

Psalms xxvi., li.

EXAMINE me, O Lord, and prove me;

Try my thoughts and my heart!

For thy kindness is ever before my eyes,

And I walk in thy truth.

I wash my hands in innocence,

And tell of thy wondrous works.

O Lord, I love the habitation of thy house,
The place where thine honor dwelleth!

Be gracious unto me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness,

According to the greatness of thy mercy blot out
my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin!
For I acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is ever before me.
Against thee, thee only, have I sinned,
And in thy sight have I done evil;
So that thou art just in thy sentence,
And righteous in thy judgment.
Behold, thou desirest truth in the heart;

So teach me wisdom in my inmost soul
Purge me with hyssop, until I be clean;

Wash me, until I be whiter than snow! Make me to hear joy and gladness,

And blot out all my iniquities! Create within me a clean heart, O God! And renew within me a right spirit!

Cast me not away from thy presence,

And take not thy Holy Spirit from me!

Restore to me the joy of thy protection,

And strengthen me with a willing spirit! Then will I teach transgressors thy ways,

And sinners shall be converted to thee.

O Lord! open thou my lips,

That my mouth may show forth thy praise! For thou desirest not sacrifice, else would I give it ; Thou delightest not in burnt-offerings.

The sacrifice which God loveth is a broken spirit;

A broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Happy is he whose transgression is forgiven;

Whose sin is pardoned!

Happy the man to whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity,
And in whose spirit there is no guile!

I said, I will confess my transgression to the Lord,
And thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.

Thou art my hiding-place; thou preservest me from trouble;

Thou compassest me about with songs of deliver

ance.

The wicked hath many sorrows;

But he that trusteth in the Lord is encompassed with mercies.

Rejoice in the Lord, and be glad, ye righteous!

Shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart!

Leave me not to rejoice over the misfortunes of others. Suffer me not to cherish pride or complacency that

I am better than others, or be boastful that I am not like other men who are unfortunate or sinful. When I see the misfortunes of others, may I consider that other temptations might have overcome me, and by the favor of God I am saved.

May the sight of sinful actions lead us to repentance, and into sympathy with those who have fallen.

May we have confidence in God that we shall not be *tempted above what we are able to bear, and can always find help in the hour of need. May we make this world and its experiences the condition of spiritual growth and moral progress. Lord, save thy children from their errors and sins!

Help us to unlearn our errors, and return unto thee, the God of truth and love.

Help us to be patient and trustful while we labor for the coming of the kingdom of peace.

May we be perfect as thou, Father, art perfect. May we be kind to the evil and the good; to the just and the unjust.

May we not salute our brethren only, nor simply do good to those who do good to us.

May we not be overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

May thy kingdom come, and thy will be done in earth, even as it is done in heaven.

Make us, O God, thy spiritual sons, even as Christ. As we have a life from the earth, so may we have a life from the heavens. As through the first we have our kindred to man and to nature, so by the second may we recognize our alliance with spiritual things. May we have the consciousness of a spiritual birth, the spirit of truth working and revealing in us the Christ, even thy presence, power, and fulness. Amen.

May our eyes see the revelations of the spiritual life. May the sun be the emblem of divine light, and the sky be the mirror of a deeper heaven. May the air symbolize the presence of God; and as the breathing of the air gives life to the body, so may the inspiration of God ever give us wisdom. May the universe be to us the temple of God. In our hearts may we have a brighter revelation of thee, O Lord, than in earth and sky. Amen.

(CHOIR.)

From all that dwell below the skies,
Let the Creator's praise arise;
Let the Redeemer's name be sung,

Through every land, by every tongue.
