O, the depth of the riches, and of the wisdom, and of the knowledge of God!

How unsearchable are his purposes, and his ways past finding out!

For from him, and through him, and to him, are all things.

To him be the glory forever.

May the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

[blocks in formation]

Follow, with reverent steps, the great example
Of Him, whose holy work was doing good:
So shall the wide earth seem our Father's temple,
Each loving life a psalm of gratitude.

Thus shall all shackles fall; the stormy clangor

Of wild war-music o'er the earth shall cease; Love shall tread out the baleful fires of anger, And in its ashes plant the tree of peace.

THIRTY-THIRD SERVICE.

EVENING PRAYER.

HEAVENLY FATHER, may we do nothing in the spirit of faction, or the spirit of vainglory, but in humility esteeming others as better than ourselves; each of us looking not only to his own interest, but to the interest of others also.

Let this mind be in us which was in Jesus, who humbled himself, taking the form of a servant, and was obedient, even unto the death of the cross.

May we work out our own salvation with fear and trembling, believing that it is God who worketh in us, both to will and to do his good pleasure.

May we be blameless and pure, as children of God, holding fast the word of life.

May we not think we are already perfect, but forgetting the things behind, may we reach forth to the things which are before.

May we rejoice in the Lord.

May we do whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy.

And may the God of peace be with us.

Being partakers of a spiritual life, may we seek the things that are above, and set not our minds on things on the earth.

In our fellowship, may we know neither rich nor poor, Jew nor Gentile, high nor low, but may the spirit of love make us all one body.

May we clothe ourselves with kindness and meekness, bearing with each other, and forgiving each other.

May the peace of God rule in our hearts.

May we be joyful always; may we pray without ceasing; in all things give thanks. May we prove all things, and hold fast that which is good, abstaining from every appearance of evil.

May the God of peace sanctify us wholly.

May none render evil for evil to any one, but ever follow that which is good, and be at peace among ourselves.

May we overcome the evil of the world, and lay hold on eternal life.

We pray for all men, for rulers and all that are in authority, that all may lead a tranquil life in all godliHear us, our God and Saviour, whose will is that

ness.

all men should be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth.

May we always pray without doubting.

May we not fall into temptation through the love of riches; but may we be content with food and raiment, having godliness, which is the great gain.

May we flee from covetousness, and follow after righteousness and love.

May those who are rich in this world not be highminded, nor place their hope in uncertain riches, but in God, who giveth us freely all things to enjoy. May we be rich in good works, liberal in imparting, willing to communicate, laying up in store for ourselves a good foundation against the time to come, that we may lay hold on the true life.

Grace be with thee.

May we follow righteousness, faith, love, peace, with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

May we study to present ourselves approved unto God, as workmen not ashamed of their work.

O Thou, who art the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords, who only hath im

mortality, dwelling in light unapproachable, whom no man hath seen, nor can see,

To thee be honor and power forever and ever. Amen.

CHOIR. (11s M.)

The toils of the day are now brought to their end,
And night is preparing her balm for our eyes;
Our strength, Lord, encourage, our weakness defend ;
Hear our prayers as they spring, and our hymns as
they rise.

We beseech of Thee now, when dim night over all
Is enfolding her shroud, and resuming her sway,
That Thy grace still may shine 'mid the glooms that
appall,

As a star to our eyes, and a lamp to our way.

Then still to thee, Father, our praises we pay,
Still to thee we will offer love's infinite store;
Send down thy pure Spirit, even now while we pray;
Be with us, and keep us, and bless evermore.
