The Tapestry of the Duke's Battles is here begun, which are introduced by a moft lively reprefentation of a Suttling Booth, Foragers, a Battle, and a Siege.

3 Dobson, an English Painter, in the Reign of King James I. with his Family, by himfelf. This laft is an admirable Piece, in the old correct Manner.

The Tapestry reprefents the Battles of Wynendale, Bouchain, and Oudenarde, with the Siege of Donawert.

The Saloon.

The Walls are adorned with Paintings of the different Habits, and Modes of Drefs of all Nations. In one of the compartments the Painter, La Guerre, has taken an opportunity of introducing himself.

The Ceiling, which is executed by the fame. hand, is an Allegorical Piece, reprefenting

Peace flopping the Duke in his Career, and Time admonishing him of the rapidity of his own Flight.

The Tapestry of the Dukes Battles is here continued with the Battles of Blenheim, Malplaquet, and the Siege of Lifle.

3 The late Dutchefs, by Sir Godfrey Kneller. The Apartments hitherto defcribed, compleat the Eaft and South Fronts of the Palace, and we now turn on the right Hand.

The Library:

From a series of fmaller, though magnificent Apartments, we are fuddenly ftruck at entering this Superb Room, which is 180 feet in length, and proportionably broad and lofty. The Doric Pilafters of Marble, with the complete columns of the fame, which fupport a rich Entablature, the Window-Frames, the furrounding Basement of Black Marble, and the Stuccoed compartments of the Vaulted Cieling, are in the highest taste, both in design and finishing. It was originally intended as a Gallery for Paintings; but the late jufly lamented Duke has added utility to elegance, having furnished it with the noble collection of Books, made by Lord Sunderland his Graces Father. Their number is faid to amount to 24000
