The company are issuing 8 per cent. gold bonds, at the rate of $16,000 per mile of" finished, equipped and completed" road. These bonds are a 1st mortgage on the line, and are endorsed by the State of Alabama for as much of the road as lies within that State. Dated Sept. 1, 1869, and due Sept. 1, 1889; coupons payable in New York City March 1 and September 1. These bonds are only issued upon each section of the road as completed and in operation.

The increase of stock and bonds in 1864 and 1865 was on account of the Newport extension, and in the years 1866, '67 and '68 chiefly on account of the Dighton and Somerset Railroad, now a part of the main line between Boston and Newport.

The Troy and Greenfield Railroad is leased from the State of Massachusetts until the Hoosac Tunnel is completed. That portion between Greenfield and Shelburne Falls was taken possession of January 1, 1868, and that between Shelburne Falls and the Tunnel, November 16, 1868. For the first portion, $20,000, and for the latter, $10,000 a year is paid.

Operations for the year ending November 30, 1869.-Trains run-passenger, 165,090; freight, 88,460; and other, 13,057-total, 266,607 miles. Passengers carried, 273,798; travel, 5,603,057 miles.
