JESUS WALKS ON THE SEA.

GOLDEN TEXT.

They all saw Him, and wərə trɔubled. And immediately He talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.-Ver. 50.

Mark vi. 45-54.

And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.

And when he had sent them away, he departed into

a mountain to pray.

And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.

And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.

But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:

For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.

For they considered not the miracle of the loaves ; for their heart was hardened.

And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.

And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him.

SANCTIFIED AFFLICTION.

GOLDEN TEXT.

My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him.-Heb. xii. 5.

Job xxxiii. 14—18, 23, 24, 26, 28–30.

For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.

In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction.

That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his upright

ness:

Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom. He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.

:

He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with

man.

To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

THE RESURRECTION.

GOLDEN TEXT,

Now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept.-Ver. 20.

1 Cor. xv. 3–6, 20—26.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

up

For he must reign, till he hath put all enemie under his feet.

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

PROSPERITY RESTORED.

GOLDEN TEXT.

Behold, we count them happy which endure.-James v.

Job. xlii. 1, 2, 4-7, 10, 12, 13, 17.

Then Job answered the Lord, and said,

11.

I know that thou canst do everything, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.

Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.

Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

And it was so, that after the Lord had spoken these words unto Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.

And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.

He had also seven sons and three daughters.
So Job died, being old and full of days.
