3.

The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thundereth, the Lord is upon many

waters.

4. The voice of the Lord is powerful, the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

5. The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars, yea the Lord breaketh the cedars of Libanon.

6. He maketh Libanon to bound like an hind calf, Sirion like a young unicorn.

7. The voice of the Lord fcattereth the flames of fire.

8. The voice of the Lord fhaketh the wilderness; the Lord fhaketh the wildernefs of Cades.

9. The voice of the Lord maketh the oaks tremble, and strippeth the forefts; and in his temple shall every one fpeak of his glory.

10. The Lord fitteth upon the deluge, yea the Lord fitteth king for ever.

II. The Lord will give strength unto his people, the Lord will bless his people with the bleffing of peace.

SIXTH MORNING.

Morning Prayer.

PSALM XXX.

A thanfgiving of David for deliverance from the very great danger of death, which he had incurred at the bands of God for his pride and rash confidence produced by his profperity.

1. I WILL magnify thee, O Lord, for thou haft lifted me up, and not made my foes to triumph over

me.

2. O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou haft healed me.

3. Thou, Lord, haft brought up my foul from the grave; thou haft reftored me to life from them that go down to the pit.

4. Sing unto the Lord, O ye Saints of his, and give thanks to the memorial of his holiness.

5. For his anger is but for a moment, his favour for life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

6. When in my profperity I faid, I shall never be moved, (thou, Lord, of thy goodness, hadst

hill so strong) thou didst hide thy face,

and I was troubled :

7.

I called upon thee O Lord, and unto the Lord I made my humble petition :

8. "What profit is there in my blood? In my going down into the pit? Shall the dust praise thee, fhall it declare thy truth?

9. Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me; Lord, be thou my helper."

10. Thou haft turned my mourning into dancing; thou haft put off my fack-cloth, and girded me with gladness.

11. Therefore my glory fhall praise thee, and be filent; O Lord, my God, I will give thanks to thee for ever.

PSALM XXXI.

The Pfalmift declares his reliance on God, that he will deliver him from his prefent diftreffes, as he had done on former occafions. Dr. Kennicott thinks that Jeremiah was the author of this Pfalm; if fo, it was probably written when he was in Egypt, where he muft have incurred the hatred of the Jews by preaching against their idolatry. See Jer. xliv. 16. For that it was written after the fiege of Jerufalem appears from verse 21. Mudge alfo confidered Fe

I. IN thee O Lord have I put my truft; let me never be put to fhame.

2. Deliver me in thy righteoufnefs, bow down thine ear to me, refcue me with speed.

3. Be thou my ftrong rock, and house of defence, that thou mayeft fave me.

4. For thou art my rock and my fortrefs, be thou alfo my guide, and lead me for thy name's fake.

5. Pull me out of the net that they have privily laid for me, for thou art my ftrength.

6. Into thy hands I commit my fpirit; for thou hast purchased me, O Lord thou God of truth.

7. Thou hateft them that regard lying vanities, but I trust in the Lord.

8. I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy, for thou haft confidered my trouble, thou haft known my foul in adversities ;

9. And didft not fhut me up in the hand of the enemy: thou madeft my feet to ftand in a wide place.

10. Have mercy on me O Lord, for I am in trouble mine eye is wafted with mourning, yea my foul and my body.

II. For my life is spent with grief, and my years with fighing my ftrength faileth me because of

my affliction, and my bones are wasted cause of all mine enemies.

12. I am a heavy reproach to my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance; they that fee me without, flee from me.

13. I am forgotten as a dead man; I am out of mind, as a broken veffel.

14. For I hear the flander of many, fear is on every fide; while they confult together against me, they desire to take away my life.

15. But I trust in the Lord; I have faid, thou art my God.

16. My times are in thy hand, deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that perfecute me.

17. Make thy face to fhine upon thy fervant; fave me for thy mercy's fake.

18. Let me not be afhamed, O Lord, for I have called upon thee; let the wicked be afhamed, and let them be cut off in the grave.

19. Let the lying lips be put to filence, that speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

20. O how great is thy goodness, which thou haft laid up for them that fear thee! which thou haft prepared for them that truft in thee before the fons of men.

21. Thou shalt hide them in the covert of thy
