we must understand by the prophets who went before him, that such a prophet was to come. If none of the prophets speak of him as a prophet, or as the last prophet, what proof have we that he is the last? I do not find in this book of God any thing said about a ' last prophet coming. Does it not appear unreasonable to use terms this way, without any authority? If Mahommed came and taught the church in the same way as others, and by the authority of "thus saith the Lord," it is not necessary as a proof that he is sent of God for him to be spoken of, as coming, by the other prophets, who lived before him; because many great prophets have appeared in the church who were not spoken of by others. All the prophets, and all the priests, and the whole world are sinners. On account of this, it is not necessary they should be mentioned by other prophets before them. They are messengers sent by God. If you say that Mahommed was a prophet, like other prophets, then he also was a sinner. Well, let us suppose he was a prophet. Is it necessary that all the church of God should receive and obey only one prophet, as Mahommed affirms? Every prophet sent by God must teach the same doctrines. If any man teach not the same things which God has already revealed, the church of God is bound not to call that man á prophet, yea it would be a great sin to receive him as a prophet. Now, my friends, how does the teaching of Mahommed appear according to this rule ? { Does he appear to have taught the doctrines of God?' No: his doctrines appear to be quite contrary to the word of God. If he was a servant and prophet of

God, was it not his duty to preach Christ? to teach all men they were to look for pardon and obtain salvation? You may say that Mahommed received his Koran from heaven, and delivered it as he received it from God, therefore he had no authority to preach Christ. Is this assertion a just one, or is it sinful? All the fathers and prophets, down from the time of Adam, were taught and guided by Christ, and they preached Christ to the church. Christ himself delivered and protected his church. He appeared to the church, and prayed for the church, before he took our nature upon him. In the fulness of time he appeared in our world, and fulfilled all that was written in the Scriptures concerning him. After his resurrection, all his apostles, prophets, and servants, were taught by him to make known to his church the things more perfectly concerning himself.

The Old and New Testaments are not opposed to each other, but they prove and confirm each other, that they both came from God-that they are written by one Author, and are all one truth, one life, one way; and all are stamped by the same seal, the seal of the Holy Spirit. This book contains all that is necessary to teach, and direct, and save the whole world, and lead them safely to heaven. This book is a ladder, which reaches from earth to heaven. There is no other way. Now compare Mahommed with the prophets. They all taught Christ, and were subject to Christ; but Mahommed did not teach Christ, he was not subject to Christ. What proof then have we that

he was sent from God? No proof. It appears quite clear to me, does it not appear very clear to you, my countrymen, that Mahommed has nothing to do with the church of God, unless it be that he acts as an instrument of Satan to ruin the church? ther proof that he was not a prophet of God, he was ignorant of the Scriptures, and ignorant of the language which distinguishes the true church from the world. Part of the things which he says in his Koran, as out of the Scriptures, are completely contrary to the Scriptures. His manner of living was very wicked. He says he received a book from God; which saying is a lie; and the book itself contains childish and foolish things. Let me beseech you, my countrymen, to compare your Koran with the word of life.

We must not waste our time with such foolish tales, but come to Christ and learn the truth as it is in him. God says in the book of Psalms, "I will declare the decree the Lord hath said unto me, thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee:" and by the prophet Isaiah it is said, "Unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulders; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace." This child is spoken of by David in the following very striking manner. "Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever, and the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. Thou lovest righteousness and hatest wickedness, therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above

thy fellows." Christ Jesus says of himself, "I and my father are one," "I am alpha and omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." Moses and the prophets did bear witness of him, " Philip findeth Nathaniel, and saith unto him, We have found him of whom Moses in the law and the prophets did write; Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Besides we are assured in Col. i. 14-16, " that in him we have redemption, through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins, who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. For by him are all things created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him; and he is before all things, and by him all things consist." All things shall be fulfilled which are spoken of in the Scriptures, and which the Lord Jesus himself said.

See Matt. v. 18. Luke xvi.

17. Therefore we do not need, neither does the world need, any other book from God, besides our Holy Scriptures. We are warned in a very solemn manner in Rev. xxii. 18, 19. "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto those things, God shall add unto him the plagues which are written in this book. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." We

are farther told, that "though we (the apostles) or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." Gal. i. 8, 9.

Now, my dear countrymen, I hope you are fully satisfied in your own minds that Mahommed is not a prophet of God; that he is a wicked man, an enemy to God. The Scriptures say, "Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." I call upon you to forsake Mahommed, and flee to the Lord Jesus Christ, and receive baptism as his true disciples.

May the Lord Jesus Christ, as the great prophet of his church, teach you by his word and Spirit. Amen.

My beloved brethren in Jesus Christ, you who have forsaken the religion of our forefathers, and who have the image of Christ on your heart, walk as his disciples, and give heed to the injunctions of the Apostle Paul, Eph. iv. 17, &c. "This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, having the uuderstanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: who being past feeling, have given themselves over to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. But ye have not so
