PREFACE

This compilation includes the various Federal laws which affect, directly or indirectly, the National Banking System, arranged with regard to the subject matter involved.

In general, the various provisions of law have been divided into the sections adopted in the United States Code, although the context of each section conforms to the United States Statutes at Large.

Each section contains reference, when possible, to the United States Code and the original Act of which it is a part, when well-known, such as the Revised Statutes of the United States, Federal Reserve Act, Banking Act of 1933, Banking Act of 1935, etc.

In addition, marginal notes give reference to the original Act, and Acts amendatory thereof, from which each section has developed. The headings, or catch-lines, over each section, are editorially inserted, and are not a part of the law.

Each section is designated, editorially, with an individual number in the following form: [2420]. Tables have been compiled giving reference to the individual numbers of each section contained in this compilation of the United States Code, United States Revised Statutes, Federal Reserve Act, Act of February 25, 1927 (McFadden Act), Emergency Banking Act of 1933, Banking Act of 1933, Banking Act of 1935, Gold Reserve Act of 1934, Silver Purchase Act of 1934, Securities Exchange Act of 1934, and National Housing Act.

In addition, a table has been compiled giving reference to the individual numbers of each section of all Acts contained in this compilation, arranged in chronological order. Such tables, together with the index, tables of contents, and cross-references, will greatly facilitate use of this compilation.
