It was on one of the forty days, between our Lord's resurrection and his going into heaven. St. Peter was in company with six of his fellow disciples, by the lake of Galilee; and having been accustomed to the life of a fisherman, before he was called to be one of the apostles, he seems to have been but imperfectly weaned from his old pursuits for instead of devoting himself entirely to his apostolic duties, he instigated his companions to occupy themselves upon the sea. He said unto them, "I go a fishing," and they immediately answered, "We also go with thee:" but when they had acted upon his suggestion, the event sufficiently shewed that they, who had been commissioned to preach the gospel, need
