PILOTS.

No. 1. Rev. Code, vol. 1, ch. 287, sec. 8, pa. 418. A person undertaking the business of a pilot without a sufficent boat, though he may have received a branch, forfeits 150 dollarsTo any person who will sue.

2 Ibid. For piloting without having obtained a branch, the penalty is thirty dollars, to be recovered as above. Not to extend to giving assistance to a vessel in distress, so as the same is delivered up to the pilot who shall offer to take charge of her, for which such assistant shall be entitled to half the legal fees.

3 Sec. 9, pa. 418. Not more than four persons shall be in partnership as pilots, under penalty of 100 dollars each- -To be recovered as above.

4 Sec. 13, pa 418 Any pilot losing a vessel by negligence, shall be suspended by the examiners for six months, and be liable to the action of the party injured, for all damages occasioned thereby.

5 Sec. 20, pa. 420. Any pilot refusing, upon application, to conduct a vessel, may be suspended by the board of examiners as long as they may deem proper, and shall be liable for all damages. To the party injured.

RUNAWAYS.

Rev. Code, vol. 1, ch. 131, sec. 7; pa. 246-247. Any sheriff, sergeant or jailor who shall demand' or take more than the legal fees for committing, releasing and dieting runaways, shall forfeit 4 dollars for every offence; and pay back all the money received over the legal ratesTo the party grieved.

SABBATH BREAKING.

Rev. Code, vol. 1, ch. 138, sec 5, pa. 276. Any person on a sabbath day, being found laboring at his own or any other trade or calling, or who shall employ his apprentices, servants or slaves in labor or other business, except in the ordinary household offices of daily necessity, or other work of necessity or charity, shall forfeit $1-67 cents for every offence.

SABBATH DAY.

Rev Code, vol. 1, ch. 305, sec. 3, pa. 432. A person dealing with a slave on the sabbath day, forfeits ten dollars.in addition to the other penalties; which are four times the value of the article, and moreover the sum of twenty dollars— (Rev. Rev. Code, vol. 2, ch. 48, sec. 1. pa. 75 No person shall haul any seine below the mouths of the different rivers in this commonwealth, between the 15th of May and 15th of August in any year, under the penalty of ten dollars for every act of hauling-To any person who will

SERVANTS.

No. 1. Rev. Code, vol. 1, ch. 103, sec 50, pa. 192. Master of a ship or other vessel carrying a servant out of the commonwealth without the permission of the owner, forfeits 150 dollarsOne moiety to the commonwealth, the other to the owner.

2 Rev. Code, vol. 1, ch 132, sec. 4, pa. 247. Servant being lazy, disorderly, or guilty of misbehavior to his master or mistress, or in his master's family, to be corrected by stripes, by order of a justice; or refusing to work shall be com pelled thereto in like manner, and moreover shall perform two days' service for every one he shall have refused to serve, or otherwise had lost; and all expenses incurred by the owner for apprehending and bringing home any absconding servant, to be repaid by further service at such rates, as the court of their county or corporation shall prescribe.

2 Sec. 5, pa. 247. If a master fail in the duties prescribed by law in relation to his servants, it may be redressed, on motion to the court, by immediate discharge from service, or by a specific order for a change in demeanor.

3 Sec. 7, pa. 248. Master putting away a Jame or sick servant who becomes chargeable to the county, shall forfeit $30-To the overseers of the poor.

4 Sec. 10, pa. 248. If a person deals with a servant without the consent of the master or owner, he shall pay to such master or owner four times the value of the article; and moreover forfeit to any person who will sue, $ 20.

5 Sec. 12, pa. 248. Any person harboring or entertaining a servant without a certificate of freedom, shall forfeit one dollar for each dayTo the owner or master. Any person forging a certificate for a servant, shall forfeit $30One moiety to the commonwealth, the other to the owner.

3 Sec. 3. If the person appointed sheriff fails to give bond and security within two months after his appointment, the clerk of the court shall within one month thereafter transmit to the governor a certificate of such failure, under the pe nalty of $300.

4 Sec. 13, pa. 122. Every sheriff or collector who shall receive from any person any officer's fees, dues, taxes, county levies or poor rates, shall deliver to the person paying a distinct account and receipt for the same, under the penalty of 4 dollars for each offence--To the person by whom the payment was made.

5 Sec 14. Every sheriff by himself or deputy, thall execute all writs and other process to him lawfully directed, and make due return thereof under the penalty of 20 dollars for each failure. And for every false return the sheriff shall forfeit 60 dollars-One moiety to the governor for the contingent charges of the government, the other to the party grieved.

Any person refusing to aid and assist an officer, to whom a warrant shall be directed by a justice, for the pur- || pose of suppressing an unlawful meeting of slaves, shall be fined at the discretion of such justice not exceeding ten dollars.

SMALL POX.

No. 1. Rev. Code, vol. 1, ch 106, sec. 1, pa. 200. Ay person wilfully bringing into this state the small pox, or any variolous or infectious matter of the said distemper with a view to inoculate or propagatethe distemper, shall forfeit 300 dollars for every offenceOne ́ moiety to the informer, the other to the overseers of the poor.

2 Sec. 4, pa. 200, A person removing from the house where he has had the small pox, or going into the company of those who have not had it, or going into a public road where travellers usually pass, without retiring and giving notice upon the approach of a passenger, until such person hath recovered and been so well cleansed in his person and clothes as to be perfectly free from infection, forfeits 7 dollars for every offence One half to the informer, the o ther to the cominonwealth, or the whole to the commonwealth if the prosecution shall be first instituted on the public behalf alone. Sec. 11, pa. 202.

3 Sec. 5, pa. 201. Every person undertaking inoculation for the small pox at any house, shall cause an advertisement to be put up at the nearest public road, or other most notorious adjacent place, giving information that the small pox is at such house, and shall continue it as long as any danger of infection remains, under penalty of 7 dollars for every day it shall be omitted-And failing to see that every patient is sufficiently cleansed in his person and clothes and to give him a certificate thereof, and that he is free from all danger of spreading the infection, forfeits ten dollars for every offence To the same.

No. 1. Rev. Code. vol. 1, ch. 85, ser. 9, pa. 143. Ever; príncipal surveyor shali reside in the county whereof he is surveyor, under the penalty of 600 dollars for every month's absence, unless detained by such Lu siness as the court shall deem a reasonalse excuse——One moiety tothe commonwealth, the other to the informer.

2 Sec. 18, pa. 144 Every surveyor shall, under the penalty of 15 dollars, express on each plat, the true variation of the magneta ic needle, whether east or west-To the party injured. See sec. 20.

3 Sec. 26, pa. 145. Any surveyor, whe ther principal or deputy, failing in any of the duties of his office, may be indicted in the court of his district, and punished by amercement or deprivation of his office, at the discretion of a jury; besides being liable to the action of the party injured.

4 Sec. 28. Any surveyor or other person refusing to produce the book of entries and surveys to the persons appointed by the court to examine the same; or to deliver them to a succeding surveyor, shall forfeit 30 dollars

5 Sec. 29. Any surveyor who shall deliver at any time within 12 months after the survey made, any certificate, copy or plat of land by him surveyed, unless to the person for whom it was surveyed, or to his order; or unless in the case of a caveat, shall forfeit 100 dollars for every 100 acres included in the survey; and be liable to the action of the party injured.

6 Sec. 55, pa. 149. On the division of a county, the surveyor of the old county, shall
