TRÜBNER & CO., 12, PATERNOSTER ROW.

Pulszky, never lived. His whole life has been one of the most exalted abnegation of self for the sake not merely of his country, but of all his fellow-creatures whom sacrifices on his part could benefit. Jealousy of any human being never entered his head, and certainly jealousy of a disreputable camp-baggage of the Beck stamp was not very likely to move him, least of all on the score of literary rivalry, as his publications might have shown, and as is at all events shown by the publication this week of three most attractive and interesting volumes,

White, Red, Black; or, Sketches of Society in the United States during the Visit of their Guest; by Francis and Theresa Pulszky.' Who was that guest need not be told; neither need it be described who are they who offer this pregnant and beautiful record of his and their sojourn beyond the western wave.”Liverpool Albion.

“This book is the production of two very different minds—a circumstance which enhances its charm to the reader, but aggravates difficulty to a reviewer. Theresa Pulszky, imaginative, quick of discernment, pictorial, affectionate, plays the treble part of the duet; her husband, a deep-searching, wide-ranging, calm-judging, clear, generous intellect, fills up the harmony of the bass.”Morn. Adv.

“Sufficient, it is trusted, has been stated to point the attention of the reader to the contents of these volumes, and to prove their value at once, as a social, political, and illustrative record of facts.”- Obser.

“The book-comprising as it does the latest statistical and general information regarding a country whose changes by growth are of unprecedented rapidity-is one of the most complete and interesting which has been produced on its subject of late years."-Scotsman.

“Under this fanciful title is presented to the English public a cluster of amusing and brilliant sketches of society in the United States—sketches drawn with singular vivacity, by two of the most distinguished of the Refugee Hungarians.”— Šun.
