Tempted to Defpair.

Thou Father of Mercies, and God of all Confolation, be merciful to me a miferable Sinner.

Lord, Remember all thy Graclous Calls of Sinners to Repentance: All thy Proteftations, that thou delightest not in the Death of him that Dies, and that thou wouldest have all to be Saved.

Lord, Remember all the exceeding great and precious Promifes, which thou haft made to penitent Sinners.

Lord, Remember, that thy Mercy is over all thy Works. That thou delightest in Mercy. And that all the Holy Angels feeing Thee well-pleafed in the exercise of that Mercy, Rejoice

That the greater my Sins are, the more will that Mercy be magnified in my Forgiveness. Lord, Remember, That thou didft fo love the World, as to give thy only beloved Son a Ranfome for it.

O Heavenly Father, Thou that sparedft not thy only Son, but deliveredft him up for us All; wilt thou not with him alfo freely give us All things? And if All things, wilt thou not alfo give us the Pardon of our Sins?

O my God, I firmly believe: thou wilt.

On that Ranfom my Saviour hath paid for me, and on all thy gracious Promifes of Pardon, which for his fake thou haft. made to me, I wholly rely.

T

HE Sick Bed is not only a State of Tryal and Temptation to the Soul, as I have already expreffed, but also of Labour and Sorrow to the Body.

And in this respect the Sick Man will have occafion to exercife Faith and Trust in God.

When a Man is confined to a Bed of Pain; and is deprived of thofe Comforts and Diversions he enjoyed in his Health; he is very apt to be Dejected, not only with the Senfe of what at present he groans under, but al fo with an uncomfortable ExpeAtation of future Sorrows.
