IN putting forth these seven Readings, it is needful that I should say a word of explanation as to their origin. Perhaps others beside myself may have sought during many Easter-tides, and sought in vain, for a volume of short instructions embodying some of the teaching of the Resurrection Festival, such as might follow naturally upon those daily penitential readings which are to be found in the hands of most Church-people during Lent. To me it has seemed that it must be harmful to the soul suddenly to cease from such devotional reading, and as it were to snap the thread of special study and resolve on the very threshold of that Queen of Days, which holds the secret of our power to become conformed to Christ's Image in holiness. Having been fortunate enough to hear a set of Addresses given by Canon Body on the "Appearances of the Risen Lord," the idea presented itself to me that the substance of some of them might be adapted so as to meet the want of such a book as |
