NEW EDITION, carefully revised and corrected, with numerous Additions and Notes by DR. ROGERS and ALEX. Lee, 1 very thick vol. 8vo. (1172 pages) (pub. at fl. 4s) extra cloth, 12s

1846

This new and greatly enlarged edition of Dr. Blandell's excellent work should be called a "CYCLOPEDIA OF PRACTICAL MIDWIFERY,' the additions are so extensive and judicious. Every author of eminence his been taxed in its preparation, and yet the materials have been arranged and combined in the most skilful manner, and with the utmost clearness, conciseness, and intelligibility. It is entitled to our warmest recommendation, as the contribution of one of our best teachers on the subject, and one who to the most extensive practical knowledge added a classic elegance of style. .... The introduction by Dr. M. Hall, on Puerperal Diseases, is one of the clearest and most comprehensive sketches we have ever read. The Physiology of menstruation, generation, conception, and all those affections which are peculiar to the female organization, derived chiefly from Sir Charles Clarke add very great value to the work. On the whole it is the most comprehensive and complete manual

extant.

"The 'getting up' demands our entire approval. Every possible care seems to have been taken in its preparation; a copious Table of Contents and an index has been prepared; and the whole has been carefully elucidated by numerous explanatory notes." Medical Gazette.

This is perhaps the most able, practical, and compre hensive body of domestic Medicine yet published. It is a class-book in the majority of medical schools, and has been translated into the German and other languages. In one very thick closely printed volume, it contains as much matter as the four volumes of Good's Study of Medicine, and about double the quantity of Thomas or Graham.

"The best work on the Study of Diseases is Elliotson's Principles and Practice of Medicine, edited by Dr. Rogers."-Lancet.

"We have the highest opinion of the merits of this work, and consider it decidedly the best on the subject. It ought to be in the bands of every practitioner who desires to fulfil the grand purpose of his vocation,-the diminution of the thousand ills that flesh is heir to.'” Dublin Medical Press.

"After a diligent perusal, we have formed the highest opinion of this edition of Dr. Elliotson's Principles and Practice of Medicine.' It is the most modern work on the subject; and is every way calculated to represent to foreigners the present state of practical medicine among the best practitioners of our country. We think it unnecessary to recommend it; because it will recommend itself, and command success by its own intrinsic merits.”—Medico-Chirurgical Review. "The want of a complete Series of Illustrations of Morbid Anatomy, in a form so compact and economical as to be generally accessible, has been peculiarly felt.

"The engravings admirably delineate the morbid changes caused by disease. The colouring of each figure is the result of minute and careful attention; there is nothing overdrawn; no indiscriminate heightening to produce effect. The immense field from which Dr. Hope has the opportunity of gleaning a rich harvest as physician to an institution where so many sick and aged are assembled, produces fruits worthy of his talents and industry."-Medical and Surgical Journal.
