GALLERY OF THE OLD GERMAN MASTERS, for-

merly at Stuttgard, in the possession of the
Brothers Boisseree, now removed to Munich,
engraved in lithography, heightened by tints,
and so admirably executed as to be scarcely
distinguishable from the most perfect line en-
gravings mounted on drab coloured drawing
paper, and forming 2 vols. elephant folio, half
bound in Turkey morocco, richly gilt, £26. 5s
Munich, 1800-36

Published at 100 Guineas without the binding.

This work is the admiration of the most fastidious connoisseurs. It is impossible to conceive the perfection which lithographic engraving has attained at Munich, without seeing this chef d'œuvre. The stones, from their uncommon size, being valuable, were cleaned off and used as the work proceeded; and as a very limited number were struck off, sets are already

scarce.

These beautiful engravings, masterpieces of their kind, have all the appearance of the most correct and finished Indian Ink drawings. The artist, (a celebrated miniature painter), spent the greater part of his life in engraving this admirable collection, which he has executed in a style at once so delicate and so relieved, as almost to place it beyond the chance of being equalled, and the possibility of being surpassed. To the present copies are added Worlidge's portrait, his large Medusa, and Hercules, of each of which but a limited number of impressions were taken.
