Memoirs of a Jew who was born in Kovno, interspersed with a history of the Holocaust in Lithuania. Ginaitė and her family were interned in the Kovno ghetto. In 1943, as a member of the Jewish underground. Ginaitė escaped to the forests, where she joined a partisan unit. Describes the massacre of Jews in Kovno perpetrated by the Nazis and Lithuanian collaborators after the Nazi occupation; dwells on the massacre of 9,200 Jews at the Ninth Fort on 28-29 October 1941. Describes the underground organizations, the leftist AKO and the Zionist Matsok, as well as the actions of the partisan unit which she joined. Places responsibility for the genocide of Lithuanian Jews not only on the Nazis but also on the Lithuanian Activist Front and the Provisional Government, which had actual power in June-July 1941 and could have tried to stop the massacre of Jews. After the war Ginaitė lived in Lithuania; in 1983 she immigrated to Canada.
