Rate of driving bridges. Chap. 478. AN ACT to provide for increased penalties for riding or driving any animal or animals across bridges or over rivers in the town of Brasher, St. Lawrence county. Passed May 3, 1872; three-fifths being present. The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows: SECTION 1. It shall not be lawful for any person to over town lead, ride or drive any horse or horses, mule or mules, faster than on a walk over any bridges belonging to the town of Brasher, St. Lawrence county, which is now or may be erected over any river in said town. Penalties. Penalties to be posted on bridge. § 2. No person shall hereafter drive any cattle across any bridge or bridges referred to in the first section of this act at a faster rate than a walk, and shall not, in so driving them over, permit more than twenty-five cattle to be upon such bridge at one time. § 3. Any person violating either provision of this act shall be liable to a penalty for each offense of fifteen dollars, to be sued for and recovered in any court having jurisdiction thereof, by the commissioner or com missioners of highways of the town of Brasher. Such penalty, when recovered, shall be applied to the repairing of bridges in said town. § 4. No person shall be liable under this act unless said penalties are fully set forth by the same being printed on a board in legible letters and posted at each end of the bridge. § 5.
