Passed June 19, AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR EXTRA CLERK HIRE IN THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE.

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. The sum of twelve hundred dollars is extra clerk-hire hereby annually appropriated for the purpose of providing extra clerk hire in the office of the secretary of state, which said sum shall include the expense of all work in said office which is required to be done by the secretary of state in connection with the operation of the ballot reform law, and the state auditor is hereby

directed to draw his orders on the general treasurer for said sum or so much thereof as may be necessary on the presentation of properly authenticated vouchers. SEC. 2. This act shall take effect immediately.

AN ACT IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 416 OF THE PUBLIC Passed June 19, LAWS, ENTITLED, "AN ACT IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER

16 OF THE PUBLIC STATUTES OF THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL AND THE ASSISTANT ATTORNEY-GENERAL."

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 2 of chapter 416 of the Public Annual salary Laws is hereby amended so as to read as follows:

"SEC. 2. The assistant attorney-general shall take the engagement prescribed by chapter 23, section 4, of the Public Statutes, before a justice of the supreme court; shall hold his office during the pleasure of the attorney general, and shall receive a salary at the rate of two thousand dollars per annum during his term of service."

SEC. 2. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed, and this act shall take effect on and after its passage.

SECTION 1. The annual salary of the messenger or Annual salary janitor of the state offices in the Elizabeth Building shall be one thousand dollars.

SEC. 2. This act shall take effect from and after its passage, and the state auditor is hereby authorized to draw his orders on the general treasurer for the payment of said salary out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.

SECTION 1. The annual salary of the messenger and janitor of the state house in the city of Providence shall be one thousand dollars.

SEC. 2. The sum of sixty dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, and the state auditor is hereby authorized to draw his orders on the general treasurer for such portions therof as may be approved by the secretary of state, and this act shall take effect immediately.

CHAPTER 908.

AN ACT ESTABLISHING THE SALARY OF THE ASSISTANT
ADJUTANT GENERAL.

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. The assistant adjutant general shall be jutant general. entitled to and shall receive an annual salary of two hundred and fifty dollars.

SEC. 2. The state auditor is hereby directed to draw his order upon the general treasurer for that amount out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, and this act shall take effect on and after its passage.

CHAPTER 909.

Passed May 30, AN ACT IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 256 OF THE PUBLIC STATUTES "OF SALARIES."

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. The annual salary of the clerk of the supreme court for Washington county shall be seven hundred and fifty dollars. The annual salary of the

clerk of the court of common pleas for Washington county shall be seven hundred and fifty dollars.

SEC. 2. The sum of two hundred and fifty dollars for each of said positions, in addition to the sum heretofore appropriated is hereby appropriated for the purpose of carrying this act into effect.

SEC. 3. This act shall take effect immediately.

AN ACT IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 606 OF THE PUBLIC Passed June 19, LAWS ENTITLED, "AN ACT IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 256 OF THE PUBLIC STATUTES OF SALARIES.'"

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. The salaries of the clerks of the supreme of clerk of C. C. court and court of common pleas for the county of Kent shall hereafter be six hundred dollars each per

annum.

SEC. 2. The sum of four hundred dollars, in addition to the sums heretofore appropriated, is hereby appropriated for the purpose of carrying this act into effect, and the state auditor is hereby authorized to draw his orders on the general treasurer for the payment of said salaries out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.

SEC. 3. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed and this act shall take effect upon its passage.

AN ACT IN RELATION TO CHAPTER 669 OF THE PUBLIC Passed June 20, LAWS PASSED AT THE JANUARY SESSION, A. D. 1888.

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. Chapter 669 of the Public Laws passed at the January session, A. D. 1888, is hereby repealed. Vols, repealed. SEC. 2. This act shall take effect immediately.

CHAPTER 912.

AN ACT IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 64 OF THE PUBLIC
STATUTES, "OF LAYING OUT AND MAKING HIGHWAYS
AND DRIFTWAYS."

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 46 of chapter 64 of the Public Statutes is hereby amended so as to read as follows: "SEC. 46. The preceding fourteen sections of this chapter shall apply only to the cities of Newport, Pawtucket and Woonsocket, and the towns of Lincoln, Cranston, Johnston, Warren, Bristol, Middletown, East Greenwich, East Providence, New Shoreham, Little Compton, Warwick, Cumberland, Barrington, Jamestown, North Providence, district of Narragansett and Westerly."

SEC. 2. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed, and this act shall take effect from and after its passage.

PURCHASE A SITE FOR A STATE HOUSE.

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. The city council of the city of Providence is hereby authorized to appropriate a sum not exceeding two hundred thousand dollars, to purchase a site in the city of Providence for a state house, and to issue the notes of the city for such time and in such amounts and with such rate of interest as may be determined by said city council.

SEC. 2. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.
