Light & Power Co. of Buffalo.

As of August 19, 1892, these two companies were consolidated to form the Buffalo General Electric Co., the subject of this report. With this consolidation, the franchise issued to the Brush Co. on November 21, 1881, and that issued to the Thomson-Houston Co. on July 18, 1887, permitting operations in the city of Buffalo, were acquired by the Buffalo General Electric Co.

A diagram of the growth of the system will be found next attached. It shows, in graphic form, the progressive steps in the formation of what is now the Buffalo General Electric Co., as well as of its only subsidiary, the Niagara Electric Service Corporation.

[4] Operations.-As of December 31, 1931, the company was supplying electric light and power to 169,998 customers in 10 communities embracing the territory covered by the cities of Buffalo and Lackawanna, the towns (townships) of West Seneca, Cheektowaga, Amherst, Tonawanda, and Hamburg, and the villages of Blasdell, Kenmore, and Williamsville. These form a compact unit of territory contiguous to the city of Buffalo.

The company's operations are confined to the production and purchase and sale of electric energy only; it engages in no gas or other operations. The total energy produced during the year 1931 amounted to 233,670,800 kilowatt-hours, all of which was generated at its one steam generating plant just north of the city of Buffalo in the town of Tonawanda. During the year 1931, 835,790,961 kilowatthours of energy were purchased. Of this amount, 353,172,174 kilowatt-hours were obtained from the Canadian Niagara Power Co., Ltd., an affiliated company, at the international boundary near Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada, or over the lines of the Niagara Falls Power Co., also anaffiliated company. The total energy produced and purchased during this year amounted to 1,069,461,761 killwatt-hours, of which 936,838,586 kilowatt-hours were sold. At the end of 1931 the company had in operation 4,749 miles of electric distributing wires.

On the following 2 pages will be found, (1) a comparative statement of operating and physical statistics for the years 1924 to 1931, inclusive, and, (2) a comparative statement of operations and related ratios for the same period. These statements give an outline of the operations of the company and also serve as indices to its growth during the period under review.
