SERMON I.

THE UNCLEAN SPIRIT.

LUKE xi. 24, &c.

When the unclean Spirit is gone out of a Man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest: and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. And when he cometh, hẹ findeth it swept and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other Spirits more wicked than himself: and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that Man is worse than the first.

1. THESE are the words of Almighty Wisdom: the words of Him, who is "the Wisdom of GOD:" who spake as Man never spake the words of that CHRIST whose Spirit searcheth all things, yea "the deep things of GoD:" who by His excellent Wisdom knoweth all things in heaven, in earth, in the sea, and in all deep places: who, when a Man on earth,
