COTTON.-The Cotton market last week was without briskness; the request for export however, still continues: about 600 bags were taken for shipping, and about 500 by the trade:-450 Pernambucco were sold at 2s. 2d.-very ordinary, 2s. 14d.-200 Maranhams, 2s. to 2s. 04d.-230 Bahias, 2s. to 2s. 04d. ; a small parcel of Boweds, 20d.-121 St. Vincents, by public sale, 20§d, to 21d.-and 80 Bengals were sold in the house at 1320. SUGAR.-The order from the Treasury to reduce the import duty of Muscovades from 30s, to 27s. per cwt. was received at the Custom-house on Thursday; we have always mentioned a reduction of duty as a matter of course, as we knew that the Chancellor of the Exchequer had alluded particularly to a probable reduction, when the late bounties on refined sugars were settled; we in consequence early suggested it (6th August) to our subscribers; the exports made previously to the 5th inst, will be placed very favourably for the owners, the prices being 2s, to 3s. lower than any parcels that can now be shipped. Since the order arrived at the Custom-house, there have been few purchases of Muscovades made by private contract; the late prices were, however, fully maintained; 171 hhds. and 10 tierces Barbadoes sugars were brought forward by public sale on Friday, the usual terms; the prices were about Is, higher than the previous market currency; the whole went off freely from 81s. to 89s. There was much interest excited this forenoon to see the probable effect of the late change of duty on the market; there was, however, little business done by private contract; the purchasers declining to make any offers until after the close of the two publie sales advertised, to see the prices realized; the first consisted of 166 hbds. 67 tierces, Barbadoes, the prices went off 39. to 4s, under the former sales; middling white, 83s. to 87s. -fine white, 90s, to 90s. 6d.-fine yellow, 78s. to 82s. 6d.-good brown, 73s. 6d. The second sale, 313 hhds. 40 tierces Guadaloupe Muscovades, ordinary soft brown, the whole went off heavily from 65s. to 69s.-one lot of 70s.-of the latter it may be stated, that the prices were fully Is. under what would have been accepted previous to the commencement of the public sales; but no alteration can be at present stated in Muscovadoes, as both sales were only fit for grocery; we have lately had extensive parcels of Barbadoes sugars brought forward, which has depressed the prices of that description, and the other sale was entirely soft sugars; a few Grenadas sold much about the previous market currency. There has been lately much briskness in the demand for refined goods; extensive shipments have been made for the Baltic; crushed sugars, from 70s, to 74s. The demand for the home consumption of the country has been also very considerable; there is little variation in single and powder loaves; Hambro' and Doubles have been in extensive demand, and the latter getting scarce. Molasses in request at an improvement of 1s. The stocks of West India in the worehouses are reduced to about 800 casks The holders of foreign descriptions continue to demand high prices; we cannot expect any considerable supplies of Guadaloupe sugars: that island being given up to the French authorities on the 23d of July. Brazil sugars have been in great request; 11 chests strong white were brought forward by public sale, and for which 63s. or 64s. was offered; the whole were withdrawn at 65s. 6d. and 66s. 6d. being subject to the auction duty: since sold by private contract so high as 65s.; and another parcel reported at 665.In this forenoon's public sales were 32 hhds. Guadaloupe Clayeds; as there are few in the market the prices realized were extremely high; middling Terres, 96s, 96s. 6d. and 98s; Communes, 78s, 6d, and 82s. 6d. Import Duty on sugars paid after Sept. 5:-Muscovades, 27s.-Clayeds, 32s.—East India sugars, 37s. -The COFFEE. The business doing in coffee continues very extensive; the prices of the orThe tine in last week's sales went dinary descriptions are again from 1s. to 23. per cwt. off freely, and realized a very high currency; about 150 bhds. good and fine middling Jamaica selling from 92s, to 96s. 6d. ; a great proportion of the marks lately imported, which used to be fine middling and fine coffee, are this year only middling, or even of inferior description the Jamaica ordinary qualities went from 60s. to 64. for very ordinary; 66s, to 69s. for good, and for fine ordinary 70s. to 75s. 6d. ; ordinary middling 82-, to 83s. 6d. The Dutch went off equally high; there was some renewal inthe demand for foreign coffee but the prices are still very low; St. Domingo, 633. to 65s.; East India descriptions were enquired after; but the sale by the Company being on so early a day, prevented any exten sive transactions from taking place. IRISH PROVISIONS, &c.-There is no variation in the prices of Beef and Pork; there continues to be a scarcity of prime parcels; the return of very warm weather will no doubt retard the season; it will probably be late in its commencement. Bacon continues in good demand. The Butter market is exceedingly depressed, and large arrivals are looked for, both from Ireland and Holland; the request in consequence continues very limited. The public sale to day will no doubt tend to depress the market; it consisted of 200 firkins New Waterford 95s, to 969. the remainder of the sale was butter of last season, and a considerable proportion of 2d and 3d quality. RUM, BRANDY, and HOLLANDS.-There continues to be a very extensive business done in rum; last week several purchases were made for the Irish market, anticipating a wet season, and that the spirit distilled from the grain would be so inferior as well as high, that it would greatly promote the consumption of rum; one or two parcels of fine Jamaicas were also taken for the Liverpool market; the accounts of the vintage in France continued to be stated very nafavourable.-Brandies are again a shade bigher.-Geneva without alteration; the demand for rum has rather given way this forenoon; the prices are, however, little varied.
