12 And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth. 13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king's table : k and was lame on both his feet.

CHAPTER X. David's messengers are sent to comfort Hanun the son of Nahash.

ND a it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.

2 Then said David, I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him, by the hand of his servants, for his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

3 And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, 1 Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee to search b the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?

CHAPTER XI. While Joab besiegeth Rabbah, David committeth adultery with Bath-sheba.

AND it came to pass, 1 after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent a Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

2 And it came to pass in an evening-tide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw b a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful c to look upon.

3 And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this 2 Bath-sheba, the daughter of 3 Eliam, the wife of Uriah ₫ the Hittite?

4 And David sent messengers and took her; and she came in unto him, and e he lay with her; 4 for she was purified f from her uncleanness and she returned unto her house.

7 And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him 5 how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.

8 And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash g thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there 6 followed him a mess of meat from the king.

9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.

AND the sent came unto him, and said b unto him, There were two men in one city: the one rich and the other poor.

2 The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:

3 But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own 1 meat, and drink of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, c and was unto him as a daughter.

4 And there came a traveller d unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him, but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.

5 And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing 2 shall surely die:

6 And he shall restore the lab four-fold, e because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

7 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel. I anointed f thee king over Israel, g and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

8 And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and h gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would

21 T But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth. 22 And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither n good nor bad for Absalom hated o Ammon because he had forced, his sister Tumar.

23 ¶ And it came to pass, after two full years, that Absalom help sheepshearers in Baal-hazor, which is beside Ephraim: aud Absalom invited all the king's sons.

24 And Absalom came to the king. and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheep-shearers; let the king, 1 beseech thee, and his servants, go with thy servant.

25 And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him howbeit he would not go, but blessed him. 26 Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Ammon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with thee?

27 But q Absalom pressed him, that he let Ammon and all the king's sons go with him.

28 T Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon's heart is merryr with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him; fear not: 11 have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be 12 valiant.
