C. 1451. 7 Then he shall minister in the king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger t over thee, which is not thy brother. 16 But he shall not multiply u horses to himself, nor cause the people to v return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye w shall henceforth return no more that way. 17 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart a turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold. 18 And it shall be when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites : 19 And y it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: 20 That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn z not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong a his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel. THEN a the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou 1 succeedest them and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses; 2 Thou shalt seperate three b cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it. 3 Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither. 4 T And this is the case of the slayer which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not 2 in time past; 5 As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the 3 head slippeth from the 4 helve, and 5 lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of these cities, and live : a ch.12.29. Is.28.16. b Is.51.7,8. c ch.1.30 14 Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour's landmark, g which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it. 15 One h witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth; at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established. 16 If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him 9 that which is wrong; 17 Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges which shall be in those days; 18 And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother; 19 Then i shall ye do unto him as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you. 20 And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you. 21 And thine eye shall not pity; k but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot. CHAPTER XX. The priest's exhortation to encourage the people to battle. W THEN thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, a and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 2 And it shall be when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach, and speak unto the people, 3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel; ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: fet 3.22. not your hearts 1 faint, fear not Jos.23.10. and do not 2 tremble, neither be ya 2Ch.13.12. terrified b because of them; 32.7,8. 4 For c the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for Who are exempt from war.
