Statement of proceedings relative to insane persons confined in State Asylums, containing: (a) Statement of money collected and paid to the state, through the efforts of attorney general, with the cooperation of medical superintendents of various asylums and judges of probate, as reimbursement to the state for the support of certain insane persons at state asylums; (b) Statement of status of proceedings for reimbursement; (c) Statement of proceedings for deportation and importation of insane persons for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1908.

REIMBURSEMENT CASES-CIRCUIT COURTS-DISPOSED OF. Phelps, as Treasurer of the Michigan Asylum, v. Van Haaften. Kalamazoo Circuit Court. Assumpsit to recover for private support at the Michigan Asylum from the husband of the patient, Antonio Van Haaften. Judgment entered for plaintiff for full amount of claim and interest February 20, 1908.

Patrick Heney. Michigan Asylum. Barry County. Circuit Court. Appeal by father from the allowance of State's claim in the probate court. Order of probate court affirmed, July 14, 1907.

OTHER REIMBURSEMENT MATTERS.

Sarah Gage. Michigan Asylum. Eaton County. Matter of enforcement of order of the probate court made June 26, 1903 for payment of $50 annually towards the support. The matter was settled by payment in full of back payments April 16, 1908.

Floyd D. Frost. Michigan Asylum. Berrien County. Order made July 15, 1907. Payment of $76.14 in 30 days and future cost of maintenance as it becomes due.

Margaret Boardman. Michigan Asylum. Probate Court. Jackson County. Order made July 11, 1907, for payment of $769.83 and future cost of maintenance.

Thomas M. Hill. Eastern Michigan Asylum. Wayne County. Order for reinbursement held pending a settlement in the court of the guardian's account.

Catherine Hornbacher. Probate Court. Huron county. Eastern Michigan Aslum. Order made September 25, 1907, directing payment of $1,047.53 in 60 days.

Frank Sharpey. Eastern Michigan Asylum. Washtenaw County. Order made October 15, 1907, directing payment of net proceeds of pension of $12 per month quarterly.

Anastasia Lambert. Probate Court. Genesee County. Eastern Michigan Asylum. Order made for payment of full amount of State's claim, if available out of estate. The estate was not sufficient to pay the full amount, and on March 14, 1908, $705.93 was paid.

George Craig. Eastern Michigan Asylum. Tuscola County. Order made September 26, 1907, directing the payment of $355.56 in 90 days. $448.75 and certain notes were collected.

Rose M. Westcott. Eastern Michigan Asylum. Genesee County. The Attorney General filed a petition for the appointment of Edwin A. Murphy as administrator of this estate. The State's claim was then filed and allowed. The estate is not yet settled.

Maria Field. Probate Court. Genesee County. Eastern Michigan Asylum. Petition filed November 30, 1907, for reimbursement. State's claim allowed March 6, 1908, and order made directing half of proceeds of sale of real estate to be applied upon State's claim. The real estate has not yet been sold.

Phila Ann Mason. Eastern Michigan Asylum. Oakland County. Order made April 7, 1908, directing the payment of $500 in 10 days.

Mary Ann Mason. Eastern Michigan Asylum. Oakland County. Order made April 7, 1908, directing the payment of $600 in 10 days.

Rosella Cramer. Eastern Michigan Asylum. Oakland County. Petition filed March 28. Order made April 21, 1908, directing the payment of $500 in 10 days.

Joseph Armstrong. Michigan Asylum. Kent County. Petition filed June 30, 1908. Pending.

Isaac Doughty. Michigan Asylum. Kent County. Petition for reimbursement filed June 30, 1908.

John Holloway, deceased. Northern Michigan Asylum. Menominee County. State's claim filed with Commissioners on Claims December 6, 1907. The State's claim was allowed, but the estate was small, so that the State's pro rata share would be not to exceed $25. The estate not finally settled.

Cora Van Buren. Northern Michigan Asylum. Menominee County. State filed petition for revival of commission on claims December 16, 1907; which was allowed. The State's claim was filed against this estate and allowed. The estate not finally settled.

Grace Riley. Michigan Asylum. Probate Court. Jackson County. The hearing upon petition for reimbursement is being held open pending settlement of the estate to which this patient is an heir.

Marriette Frost. Probate Court. Berrien County. Michigan Asylum. Order made July 15, 1907, directing payment of $864.10 in 30 days.

Antonia Van Haaften. Michigan Asylum. Petition to compel guardian. to reimburse State for maintenance. Order made April 17, 1908, denying petition. Appeal pending to circuit court.

DEPORTATION MATTERS DISPOSED OF.

Catheryn M. Dougherty. Michigan Asylum. Calhoun County. Reported as being a resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Arrangements completed for deportation June 11, 1908.

Vella Wellington, reported to Department July 18, 1907, from Michigan Asylum. During the investigation as to her legal settlement she was returned to relatives in South Haven September 19, 1907.

Adam Swasinesky, deportation to Wisconsin; after investigation it was found that this man had a legal settlement in the State of Michigan, although he had been previously confined in a Wisconsin asylum.

IMPORTATION OF INSANE, DISPOSED OF.

Charles Kraut. Importation from Wisconsin. Arrangements were completed for this patient's return to the Wayne County Asylum at Eloise, March 23, 1908.

Arthur Jilson. Importation from Illinois. Pending an investigation as to whether this man was a resident of Michigan. He escaped from a Chicago asylum July 26, 1907, and nothing further has been heard from the matter.

COURTS-PENDING.

Appeal from Probate Court to Circuit Court by State from order dismissing petition for reimbursement pending.

People v. Charles Taylor. Ionia Circuit Court. Suit to recover cost of maintenance at State Asylum is now pending. The patient has an estate consisting of real property of the value of about $400.

Louis Rumagi. Appeal to circuit court by State from order disallowing State's claim for reimbursement. The appeal is now pending.

DEPORTATION MATTERS PENDING.

William J. Wheaton, confined at Michigan Asylum. Deportation to California. Arrangements are about completed to return this patient to the care of his sister in California.
