and heirs according to the promise, Gal. iii. 26-29.

VER. 9.

Επαγγελίας γὰρ ὁ λόγος οὗτος· Κατὰ τὸν καιρὸν τοῦτον ἐλεύσομαι, καὶ ἔσται τῇ Σάββα υιός.

a For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sarah shall have a son.

a And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him, Gen. xviii. 10. For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him, xxi. 2.

VER. 10.

Οὐ μόνον δὲ, ἀλλὰ καὶ ̔Ρεβέκκα, ἐξ ἑνὸς κοίτην ἔχουσα, Ἰσαάκ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν·

And not only this; a but when Re. becca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac ;

a And Isaac entreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was entreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. And the children struggled together within her: and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of the LORD. And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels: and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger, Gen. xxv. 21-23.

VER. 11.

This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations. For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? Isa. xiv. 24-27. Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it, xlvi. 10, 11. b Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded, Rom. xi. 57. a And he said, I will make all my | goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy, Exod. xxxiii. 19.

a But now, O LORD, thou art our Father: we are the clay, and thou our Potter; and we all are the work of thy hand, Isa. Ixiv. 8. Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lon D. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel. At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it: If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them. And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build, and to plant it: If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good wherewith I said I would benefit them, Jer. xviii. 3-10.
