On Faith.

SECTION XLI.

AND besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith, virtue ; and to virtue, knowledge; and to knowledge, temperance; and to temperance, patience; and to patience, godliness ; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For so an entrance shall be ministered unto

you

abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. *

* 2 Pet. i. 5, 8, 11.

On the Day of Judgment.

SECTION XLII.

JESUS said unto them, The Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation ; but is passed from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; and hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. Marvel not at this : for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. *

* John v. 22, 24—29.

On the Day of Judgment.

Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgmentseat of Christ ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. *

On Forgiveness of Sins.

SECTION XLIII.

When the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die.* Wash ye, make ye clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes ; cease to do evil ; learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. Come now, and let us

reason together, saith the Lord : though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land; but if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall he devoured with the sword : for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

On Forgiveness of Sins.

SECTION XLIV.

In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance. And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees : therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewn down, and cast into the fire. * From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. I
