Alpine McLean, Treasurer.

Copy of the Acting Auditor's Report. I have examined the accounts of the Treasurer and find them absolutely correct and properly vouched for.

man.

J. J. DUNLOP, Auditor.

"The Lord's Day is one of the greatest boons ever given by God to It is absolutely necessary for his physical health, and necessary to enable him to bear the wear and tear of the six days' work. Medical men who have studied the subject deeply tell us that one day in seven is the most beautiful proportion that could have been devised for restoring the strength taken away by the wear and tear of the week that is not restored by sleep at night. Show your gratitude to God for this boon by doing all you can to maintain it for yourselves and for others."-Earl of Shaftesbury.

A holiday Sabbath is the ally of despotism, a Christian Sabbath is the Holy day of freedom.-Hallam.

"Its real enemy and destroyer is found in the person who, although he may hold the traditional view of Scripture, makes a selfish, secular and senseless use of Sunday; a use that rises no higher than animal gratification but is not good for man simply as an animal. To find the To find the destroyers of the Bible, we only have to look out of our windows on Sunday morning and note the crowds of respectable people who, turning their backs upon the church, the spiritual interests of mankind, the higher sanctities of their own homes, and all the noble pleadings of Scripture, are rushing off to fleeting and frivolous pleasures that neither rest the body nor chasten the heart. Let them reflect and repent. They are not only destroying the Bible, they are pulling down the pillars of the temple of civility which is the sole protection of their lives and their properties. The time for repentance and reform is at hand!

But no anxiety to listen to the Oracles of God, to hear the Word of God that will prepare the boy to resist temptation and the girl to lay her babe in the grave with a sublime trust in infinite Love!

"Under such circumstances is it any wonder that young people are growing up with no faith in religion. and no interest in the church? Their parents do not act as though these matters are of any importance. These fathers and mothers who have allowed the Bible to drop out of the home as though something of no value, are most effectually destroying it. And as the Bible has been allowed to slip into unfortunate. neglect, how many of the gracious, beautiful and precious things of life are also slipping away from the rising generation: respect for common. rights, reverence for age, public spirit, interest in the church, a sweet and beautiful sense of the sanctity. and dignity of human life!

"The Christian people of our time must be more earnest in their Christianity. They must save the Bible by actually living its essential principles. Its texts must be made alive in character. Parents must see to it that their children are thoroughly trained in the grand ethical doctrines. of the Scriptures. We can continue. to enjoy the blessings of civilization only as we are loyal in our lives to the principles of piety and civility that are more powerfully presented in the Bible than anywhere else."

NATIONAL POVERTY.

There is a strong plea for the recognition of the Lord's Day in the statement of Rev. Wilbur F. Crafts that the Sundayless and the Sunday

breaking nations are poor. Poor physically-Italy once and France. twice, in ten years, cut down their standards for soldiers because they are not strong physically; poor mentally they have the greatest illiteracy; poor morally-they have the

most vice; poor financially-their workmen, despite longer hours per day and one more day in the week, get the lowest wages; and they are also the worst off politically, vibrating between the extremes of despotism and anarchy.
