The said day, this haill afternoon was spent in visiting and examining
some of the colledge accomptes not yet closed.

26 October, ante meridiem.

Sederunt, the lord bischop, Mr. William Scrougie, Mr. William Gray, Mr. Alexander Seatoune, Mr. Alexander Gairden.

The said day, it is thought meit that ane reason be given wherfoir Pitfoddells his new tack did not mentione ane new augmentatione.

Item, to inquyre how it comes to passe that the laird of Eight his band hes not accresced to the good of the colledge since the dait therof, and that ther is noe mentione therof made in the accomptes.

Item, to inquyre how bibliotheck money is disposed wpon.

Item, the subprincipall takes upon him to instruct that ther wer tuo particulare soumes resting be the colledge to his good sister, relict of Mr. James Sandilands, the one about tuelve hundreth 21 libs. 15s., and the uther about tuo thousand thretie eight poundis. The first soume in the comptes is in annis 1656 and 1657, and the other in '58 and '59.

Item, anent the ellevine hundreth poundis givine to doctor Muir for his Lundon voyage, The subprincipall produced ane warrand subscrived be the masters of the colledge for tuentie pounds sterling, and referris to the colledge to shew warrand for advanceing to him threttene hundreth merkis mair.

The said day, it is declairit be the tuo professors of divinitie that they keep each of them tua dayes in the week distinct one from the uther; and are desyred so to continew to the midst of Junii, and als much longer as schooleris will stay with them; and that they doe distribute common heads amongst the studentes, which they have weiklie, after the beginning of Februar, befoir the professor alternis vicibus, and susteane theses therupon; and that these who have made further progresse in ther studies are ordered to have ther homelies befoir the professor in the meitings.

Item, anent the professores of divinitie ther stipends, The professor of the kings colledge his stipend is declaired to be fourtie-four bollis meill, tuentie

tua bollis beir, and four hundreth and feftie merkis money; which stipend was provydit to him be the synod of Aberdene in bischop Patrick Forbes his tyme; and that he hes a mans mortified be doctor Johne Forbes of Corss, which the incumbent is obleist to manteine.

Item, Mr. Johne Menzies professor in the new colledge, being inquyred concerning his mantenance, declaired that he was both presented to be professor of divinitie and minister in the Grayfrier church, for which he receives yeirlie ane thousand pundis and ane chalder coallis, and that the reasone why he was presentit to thes tuo places joyntlie was becaus neither of them apairt would affoord ane competent manteanance. Being further inquyred how his manteanance came, ansuered that the laird of Kemnay laitlie mortified ten thousand merkis for ane preacher in the Grayfrier church, and that ther wer severall mortificationes of old by Coupland Chalmerlane and uthers for professione of divinitie, bot that alone could hardlie afford halfe ane manteanance for ane professor of divinitie : bot the toune of Aberdene cane give ane more full accompt of all the mortificationes.

Item, it is to be inquyrit at Mr. Johne Row if he receavit the moneyis from thes who wer doctorat.

Item, to inquyre if Mr. Johne Row receavit from doctor Blythe tuo hundreth merkis.

Item, it is appoyntit that the haill comptes concerning the old colledge, aither chairge or dischairge, objectiones instructiones warrands or any thing they have for cleiring themselves, be givine to the bischope on Saturday nixt the 29 of this instant, wherthrow the same may be resolved wpon against the nixt meiting one Twysday the eight of November nixt.

Item, it is to be inquired how the colledge debtes are contractit since the yeire 1651, how the money then lifted was imployed, and how much of that debt was imployed fer the new building; and ansuer to be givin in in wreit to the meiting.

Item, it is desired that doctor Muire give in his commissions and instructiones for his severall voyages to London and Edinburgh.

Appoyntes the nixt meiting to be in the lord bischopes house in New
Aberdene to-morrow, 9 November 1664, at nyn in the morning.

The said day, Mr. Patrick Sandilands subprincipall produced the two comptes, one tuelve hundreth 21 lib. 15s., the other one tua thousand thretie eight lib. anent his sister in law.

The said day, it is ordained that of new the colledge comptes, both of debtes awand be them, the colledge rentes, the receptis of the bischopis rentes, ther depursementes and advancementes on the new work, be in reddines and produced to the nixt meiting; and that they meit amongst themselves and accord therwpon, and quher any difference is, the samen to be considerit and desydit by the meiting; and the nixt meiting is appoyntit to be on Wedinsday, 16 of this instant, at tuo hours afternoon, in the bischopes hous in New Aberdeine.

Kingis colledge of Aberdene, 20 Junii, 1665, being Tuysday, post meridiem.

In the visitatione of the said colledge, sederunt, the lord bischope, laird of Phillorthe younger, Richard Maitland of Pitrichie, Mr. Alexander Ros parsone of Monymusk, Mr. William Scroggie at Rathven rector of the universitie of the said colledge, Mr. William Gray at Auchterles, Mr. Alexander Seatone at Banff.

The afternoon wes spent in perusing the whole progres of the former meetingis, since the first enterance of the saids visitors ther meetingis; and the next meeting appoynted to be to morrow the 21 of Junii, at ten of the clock befoir noone.

21 Junii, 1665, ante meridiem, Weddnisday.

The fornoone spent in further examinatione of the colledge accomptes, and thinking wpon overtures for the better ordering of the colledge, both for discipline and utheris &c.; and the next meeting appoynted at tuo of the clock in the afternoone.

Eodem die post meridiem.

The said day, delivered be the lord bischope to Mr. Alexander Forbes clerk to the visitatione off the colledges of Aberdene the minutis of the visitatione of the saids colledges of Aberdene, which wes in September 1661, consisting of leavis in secundo, and one page not subscryved.

Item, receaved be the said clerk from the lord bischope doctor Midletounes backband, daitit day of September, 1661.

The said day, it is ordered that these who haue fledd and withdrawne themselffis from ther studies and discipline of this colledge, since the tyme of the late ryot committed be them and ther complices on the Lord's day, in joyning with and assisting of certane unrulie persones, be not receaved back to the colledge, nather haue graduatione and benefite therof, but till suche tyme as they submitt themselffis to the censure and punishment of the principall and maisteris of the colledge, and that the kirk sessione of the Old Toune be satisfied for ther profanatione of the Lord's day.

Item, ordered that the principall tak speciall notice and inspectione of the severall maisteris ther diligence (as he shall be ansuerable) in goeing about ther dueties, and that upon his deprehending any miscariage or neglect in any of them he doe admonish once and againe; and iff efter tuo admonitiones they continew in miscariage or neglect, he dilate them to the first rectorall meiting, which meiting is to censure according to the nature and degrie of the delinquencie; and iff after the said censure they fall in the lyk miscariage or neglect, then and in that caice, to be put from ther places by the chancellar. And continewes the meiting till eight of the clock the nixt morning.

22 Junii 1665, ante meridiem, Thursday.

The said day, it is statute that these who went abroad wpon the colledge charges, without commissione from the major pars of the quorum, shall refound what they haue gottin wpon that accompt at demand of the rectorall meeting.

As also, that what any of the memberis of the colledge haue gottin for furnishing of moveable plenisheing [they] shall refound the same within ten dayis after demand of the rectorall meeting, and they to haue the plenisheing to themselffis, to be used and disponed wpone be thame at ther pleasour.

Act for the mor tymouse conveening of masteris and scholeris within the universities and colleges of this kingdome etc. [engrossed in the minute book of King's College, April 26, 1665.]

Edin. 27 Februarii 1665

The commissioners appoynted be the kings most excellent majestie for visiting of universities, considering the great prejudice the saids scholers suffer in ther studies yeerlie, in conveening long after and dissolving long befor the ordinarie tyme formerlie prescryved and observed; also considering the great abuse committed be the masters of the saids universities in receaving and admitting of scholers from ane universitie to ane other; for preventing and remeiding wharof in tyme coming, has ordained, lykas be thir presentis they doe strictlie ordaine, the meittings of the severall universities to be and begin evry yeare at the terme of Michaelmes, and that no scholer be admitted after the tenth day of November nixt following the said terme of Michaelmes; and that the saids scholers stay and continue together at the saids universities till the twentieth day of July therafter, except the last classe commonlie called the magistrand classe, whilk is permitted to dissolve the first day of Maij that yeare; also they discharge any scholers to be receaved and admitted from one universitie to ane other, except sufficient testimonialls be brought and producit by them, as the masters of the saids universities receavers will ansuer to the contrary upon ther perrell. Visitatione of the tuo colledges of Aberdene.

Att the kings colledge in Old Aberdene the fourteint day of Aprile 1669 yeirs, being the secund Wednesday of that moneth.

Sessione prima post meridiem.

The said day, after incalling of the name of God, ane right reverend father in God Patrick bischope of Aberdene, Mr. Alexander Midltoun principall of the kings colledge of Aberdene, and remanent maisters and regents therof, presented befoir the commissioners after namit ane act of his majesties privie councill, under the subscriptione of sir Johne Gibsone clerk, bearing dait at Aberdein the eighteint day of February last bypast 1669, whairby the most honorable lords of privie counsell did appoynt ane visitatione of the said kings colledge and the colledge of New Aberdene, and
