without gainsaying, as soon as I
was sent for: I ask therefore for
what intent ye have sent for me?
30 And Cornelius said, Four
days ago I was fasting until this
hour; and at the ninth hour I
prayed in my house, and, behold,

31 And said, Cornelius, "thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee. 33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now there fore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

CHAPTER XII. 1 King Herod persecuteth the Christians, killeth James, and imprisoneth Peter; whom an angel delivereth upon the prayers of the church. 20 In his pride taking to himself the honour due to God, he is stricken by an angel, and dieth miserably. 24 After his death, the word of God prospereth.

Herod's miserable end. A. D. 44. prison: but prayer was made them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same 1 Thess. 5.11. night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains and the keepers before the door kept the prison. 7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

CHAPTER XIII.

1 Paul and Barnabas are chosen to go to the
Gentiles. 7 Of Sergius Paulus, and Ely-
mas the sorcerer. 14 Paul preacheth at
Antioch, that Jesus is Christ. 42 The Gen-
tiles believe: 45 but the Jews gainsay and
blaspheme: 46 whereupon they turn to the
Gentiles. 48 As many as were ordained to

CHAPTER XIV.

1 Paul and Barnabas are persecuted from
Iconium. 8 At Lystra Paul healeth a
cripple, whereupon they are reputed as
gods. 19 Paul is stoned. 21 They pass
through divers churches, confirming the
disciples in faith and patience. 26 Return-
ing to Antioch, they report what God had
done with them.
