Here was a pail of ice-water! My rapt senses were speedily called back to the dull reality of this poor world; for, without rummaging my pockets, I was quite sensible of being worse off than "the captain bold of Halifax," who, if the song be true, actually had a one pound note in the pocket of his regimental small-clothes, with which the "unfortunate Miss Bailey" was very well satisfied.
